Full Job Description

We are looking for a Consultant Gynaecologist to join our team of Consultants in Women's Health at Southmead Hospital, North Bristol NHS Trust, Bristol., Applicants are required to be on the Specialist Register and have CCT in Obstetrics and Gynaecology or be within six months of obtaining it by the interview date.

Experience and familiarity with UK hospital systems and practices or equivalent is essential. The successful candidates will be employed under Terms & Conditions of Service for Consultants (England) 2003.

Full registration with the GMC is essential. The post is based at Southmead Hospital. The appointee will be required to reside not more than 30 minutes travel by road from base hospital, for on-call purposes., North Bristol NHS Trust is the largest Trust in the South West region and one of the largest Trusts in the country. Last year the Trust treated over 100,000 inpatients, over 350,000 outpatients, 90,000 emergency department patients and helped deliver nearly 5,500 babies. It employs more than 9,500 staff, has approximately 1,050 inpatient beds and income in excess of £540 million. We have specialist and tertiary level services in urogynaecology, endometriosis, fertility, vulval clinics and Placenta acrreta spectrum disorder. NBT has a level 3 NICU and is the host for the South West Maternal Medicine Network.

The Trust provides medical, surgical, neonatal and maternity care for its local population of approximately a million people in Bristol, South Gloucestershire and North Somerset. The Trust also provides regional services in neurosciences, orthopaedics, pathology, plastic surgery and burns, renal medicine and transplant and urology and is the major trauma centre for the West Country.

The Trust moved the majority of its acute services to the Brunel Building in May 2014 which is regarded as one of the best hospital facilities in Europe, on the Southmead Hospital site. The Trust has teaching status and is linked with the University of Bristol and the University of the West of England. The women and children's services are delivered on the same site in a closely adjacent building.
