Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist

The Gynaecological Oncology Department is looking for a full-time permanent Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist at Guy's & St. Thomas' South-East London Cancer Centre. The post holder will be expected to provide specialist Gynaecological Oncology services at Guy's and St Thomas' sites., This job is anticipated to contain 10 Programmed Activities per week on average to be carried out on Guy's & St Thomas' sites and includes on-call commitments. Please read Job Description for full scope of the role, but main duties include:

• Oncology Theatres
• Rapid Access diagnostic & Cancer Clinics
• Ward Round
• Multi Disciplinary Team meetings
• On call(midweek and weekend rota)
• Teaching, Direct Clinical Care Activities: These activities include ward rounds, outpatient clinics, theatre sessions and MDM attendance. See timetable.
Other Programmed Activities: These include job planning, appraisals, governance, audit, teaching and administration. Regular meetings: These include consultant meetings, audit, morbidity & mortality meetings and teaching sessions. Administrative Support: The postholder will have full-time administrative support with shared Patient Pathway Coordinators.

The applicant must be on the GMC specialist register as a Sub-Specialist in Gynaecological oncology. The post holder should have experience in advanced robotic surgery in Gynaecological Oncology.,
• RCOG Accredited Subspecialty training in Gynaecological Oncology
• Clinical core training and experience in general obstetrics and gynaecology equivalent to that required for a UK CCT
• BSCCP Accreditation
• Experience in Diagnostic procedures including Outpatient Operative Hysteroscopic procedures, LLETZ, Cervical & Vulval biopsy, Experience in Robotic surgery in Gynaecological Oncology
• Experience in Benign laparoscopic and complex Gynaecological Surgery
• Exposure to ultra-radical surgery in Gynaecological Oncology, Full UK GMC registration and a Licence to Practise
• Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within six months of the date of the AAC - as a Sub-specialist in Gynaecological Oncology
• MRCOG-III or equivalent specialist qualification, Other relevant postgraduate qualifications e.g. MD, PhD, MS, MSc. in Gynaecology
Clinical Skills,
• A commitment to and evidence of multidisciplinary practice
• Skills in treating and managing all gynaecological cancers referred to cancer centre in UK
• Ability to work conjointly with other specialties for radical surgery
• Skills in managing two week-wait cancer diagnostic clinics. Ability to perform outpatient ambulatory diagnostic and therapeutic hysteroscopy
• A team approach to care and service management, including appreciation of nursing and therapy roles.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively with colleagues; clinical and non-clinical, patients and their carers/relatives.
• Ability to manage Gynaecological Emergencies, Understanding of principles of audit and its use to drive service improvement
• Experience of service innovation and/or development, Experience of managing clinical governance targets e.g. CNST
• Experience of achieving quality targets e.g. CQIN, KC65, Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates and junior medical staff
• Research experience, with documentation of publications in peer-reviewed journals
• Experience of contributing to clinical trials, Successful completion of higher research degree (equivalent to PhD or MD)

Guy's & St Thomas' Hospital is a renowned cancer centre both nationally and internationally and a centre of excellence in robotic and cancer surgery. The department is linked to the King's College University and London & KSS deanery for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching respectively., The team provides tertiary gynaecological oncology surgery for South East London (catchment area 2.1 million), unit level diagnosis and management of women with gynaecological malignancy and diagnostic and therapeutic colposcopy for women living in Lambeth and Southwark.
The Gynaecological Oncology unit at Guy's and St Thomas' provides a comprehensive tertiary surgical, clinical and medical oncology service, including the management of women with ovarian, endometrial, cervical, vulval and vaginal cancers at primary presentation and recurrence. It operates as the central hub of the South East London Gynaecological cancer network. The department also has a unit function for the diagnosis and management of Gynaecological malignancy and a screening role for the management of women with an abnormal cervical smear for women within the local catchment area of Lambeth and Southwark. The team has many areas of special interest including robotic/laparoscopic surgery, fertility sparing surgery, ultra-radical ovarian cancer surgery, sentinel node detection, ultrasound to diagnose malignant ovarian masses, risk reducing surgery for women at inherited genetic risk and specialist vulval disease clinics. The two week wait clinics operate a one stop model with same day ultrasound, and ambulatory hysteroscopy - diagnostic and therapeutic, vulval, vaginal and cervical biopsies.
