Full Job Description

The geriatric medicine team at Surrey & Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust (SASH) is expanding and the future is exciting. We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Geriatrician to join our dynamic and forward-thinking team. We have recently developed our 5 day frailty SDEC service and are now expanding it to cover 7 days. We are also part of the National Neighbourhood Health Implementation Programme (NNHIP) trial site and part of Surrey East which hosts one of the national Frailty collaborative hubs.
We are looking for 4 substantive consultant colleagues to join our wonderful team. These posts will work within our already established GEMINI team and the current 4 substantive consultants in post. This team uses an evidence-based approach to develop services which integrate medicine for the elderly into acute medicine, emergency medicine, surgery and the community. The GEMINI team currently support the management of patients in ED, frailty SDEC and in-patient elderly care wards., We are now expanding this provision, and these new posts will be instrumental in supporting the development of this service. This will ensure we can run a frailty SDEC 7 days a week with direct admissions from GP referrals and SeCAMB as well as supporting wider in reach into all areas of the hospital where our group of patients need support from our service. It also means that we can align our developing service with the emerging neighbourhood model and future increase in community geriatric provision. We are also currently recruiting a number of ACPs and AHPs to support this service development. We are therefore looking for flexible, passionate team members, that are not limited by perceived boundaries in healthcare systems, and keen to work in an innovative environment.
We welcome informal enquiries and visits. If you would like to discuss the role further, please contact: Dr Sinead Henderson, Clinical Lead Elderly Medicine. Email: [email protected].
For further information, please see the attached trust job description and person specification for a full list of duties and responsibilities.
