Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking to appoint a Consultant Gastroenterologist to join the Digestive Diseases Centre (DDC), working across Queen's Hospital and King George Hospital.
The successful candidate will contribute to comprehensive Gastroenterology services including inpatient care, outpatient clinics, diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, emergency Gastroenterology and multidisciplinary working. The post includes participation in the Gastroenterology on-call rota and cross-site working according to service requirements.
The successful candidate will have broad experience in Gastroenterology and appropriate competence in upper and lower GI endoscopy. They will work closely with the wider multidisciplinary team and contribute to teaching, clinical supervision, governance, audit, quality improvement and service development.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated consultant who will contribute to safe, efficient and sustainable Gastroenterology services and support continued improvement in patient access, diagnostic and elective recovery, cancer pathways and patient flow.
Applicants must have full GMC registration with a licence to practice and appropriate specialist registration/eligibility for substantive Consultant Gastroenterologist appointment.
The Consultant Gastroenterologist will participate in the Trust's Emergency Gastroenterology Service, delivering consultant-led assessment, diagnosis and management of patients presenting with acute gastrointestinal disease.
Emergency Gastroenterology services are delivered across Queen's Hospital and King George Hospital in collaboration with Acute Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Critical Care, General Surgery, Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, Interventional Radiology and Anaesthetics.
The consultant will provide timely senior clinical decision-making to support safe admission avoidance where appropriate, facilitate early discharge and ensure prompt access to specialist investigation and intervention.

We run a Women's Health Hub in Ilford; an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and at St George's Health and Wellbeing Hub. These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week.
