This is an exciting opportunity to join the enthusiastic team of the Department of Digestive Diseases which is evolving to provide a modern responsive service for the needs of patients with Gastroenterological disorders in Northamptonshire and South Leicestershire. We have a Consultant of the Week model of care for in-patient services. Our endoscopy department has been refurbished and expanded to a well-equipped five room unit.

New appointee will join our seven existing consultants in delivering a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services. The successful candidate will work with the current junior staff. This consists of 3 StRs, 1 Trust grade registrar, 2 x IMT, 1 x GPVTS, 2 x F2s, and 1 x F1. There is also a doctor's assistant to help the ward-based doctors with administrative tasks.

We are seeking motivated and enthusiastic colleagues with a broad range of GI skills with primary interest in Luminal /Nutrition, to join the team to push the boundaries further and improve the timely delivery of a high-quality service.

We all appreciate that consultants develop their skills with practice and the Trust have a proactive approach in encouraging and supporting the development of the leadership and management skills of its consultants.

To share with colleagues the responsibility for the day-to-day management of the patients on Digestive Disease Unit ward (Consultant of the week model)

Provide both diagnostic and therapeutic upper GI endoscopy and colonoscopy.

Focus on the delivery of core Gastroenterology services.

Subspeciality interest in Nutrition is desirable to support the existing team. Subspeciality interest in Hepatobilliary (ERCP / EUS) is also desirable to support the existing team and develop an EUS service.

Participate in "GI bleed" oncall rota.

Teaching and training of junior medical staff, nurses, and medical students from the University of Leicester.

To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.

To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME), mandatory training and appraisal/revalidation.

Engage with and encourage research participation relevant to the special interest area of the post holder.
