Full Job Description

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic, skilled, approachable and motivated Consultant Child & Adolescent psychiatrist to join the CYPMH service to help in managing the referrals that are coming through to the single point of access service. This is a new post created to help the MDT think about how to prioritise referrals and complete assessments. This will also give the person appointed an opportunity to liaise with GPs and other referrers in the system. This is an excellent opportunity for a consultant psychiatrist to work with and develop an enthusiastic and newly formed closely knit multidisciplinary team of committed professionals. The appointed person will work with and lead a well-functioning team to assess and work with professionals and play a crucial role in prioritising referrals based on clinical need and risk.

  • To manage an established caseload of approximately 60 patients many of whom use medication
  • To contribute to the management of clients under the care of non-medical staff and give medical input to their management plans.
  • To develop treatment plans for 2-3 new clients per month
  • To contribute to assessment regarding complex ADHD and other types of complex psychiatric conditions
  • To offer consultation to the Access Team one day per week via the weekly MDT and a joint assessment per week as needed
  • To comply with all legal obligations covering clinical practice e.g. Mental Health Act and Code of Practice, safeguarding procedures
  • To complete relevant paperwork, including maintaining the electronic record and participating in routine outcome monitoring of clinical work
  • To teach and supervise medical staff and other professionals in all aspects of psychiatric care
  • To participate in the weekly team meeting and undertake other duties, as negotiated, that contribute to the good functioning of the clinical team
  • To provide clinical and professional leadership within the post and take part in management activities and governance processes related to the post or the wider service within which it is embedded.
  • As a senior clinician, to have an integral role in the performance of the team, further development of the service, and the development of the clinical pathways and priorities of the service line
  • The trust is embarking on an ambitious transformation of services within CAMHS using the THRIVE principles and the candidate would be encouraged to develop and contribute towards these changes to deliver an effective and compassionate service to the young people living within Barnet, Camden, Enfield and Haringey. All new consultants will be provided with mentoring by experienced consultants to help develop in the role as medical leaders. The consultant will be invited to be part of the local Consultant CPD/Peer support group.
