Full Job Description

  • Managing and supporting complex, global business and human rights projects, with a non-exclusive focus on the Middle East and Africa.
  • Drafting detailed proposals, with the ability to accurately scope and design effective projects within the client's budget
  • Writing high-impact reports and other client deliverables, which utilise appropriate data visualisations and a compelling writing style.
  • Creating framework scoring sheets and data dashboards.
  • Conducting site visits, audits and rightsholder engagement.
  • Supporting team business development efforts.
  • Advising on BHR matters in challenging locations, for example on mining projects in the DRC or construction projects in the Middle East.

    Control Risks is looking for an exceptional business and human rights (BHR) consultant to join our market-leading business and human rights practice. The successful candidate will be an integral member of the BHR team, working across a range of labour rights issues, human rights assessments and security and human rights projects. The ideal candidate will typically have gained several years of relevant experience working in business and human rights consulting and/or in-house business and human rights roles. You will have a good working knowledge of key business and human rights principles and trends and be able to apply them in a range of complex and demanding settings in this fast-paced and dynamic practice., A problem-solving, self-starting attitude, able to work independently within broad guidelines.
  • An ability to quickly and accurately understand a client's needs and articulate a compelling solution based on our core principle of 'practical innovation'.
  • Collaborative approach to teamwork and inter-team co-operation.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and project challenges.
  • Exceptional communication, research and presentation skills.
  • A balance of commercial entrepreneurialism with high standards of propriety and ethics., A good academic record in a relevant discipline or comparable practical skills demonstrated in a work environment.
  • A good level of relevant practical work experience in business and human rights, preferably with site-level experience.
  • A sound knowledge of core BHR laws, principles and frameworks (CSDDD, FLR, UNGPs, OECD Guidelines, IFC PS) and current trends.
  • Ability and willingness to travel occasionally for project delivery.
