Consultant Anaesthetist

Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (BHNFT) is delighted to be looking to appoint one whole-time Consultant in Anaesthesia to join our team. This post is to allow expansion of anaesthetic services to meet activity and service specification demands and includes the flexibility to spend a significant amount of time within the job plan to allow for engagement within a specialist area of your choice with particular reference to Obstetric anaesthesia, Trauma and Orthopaedics anaesthesia and Perioperative medicine. This is an exciting opportunity to work within our close knit anaesthetic and intensive care team at a thriving district general hospital, while pursuing a significant sub-specialty interest. This post will suit an appropriately trained clinician with CCT or equivalent in anaesthesia. The prospective candidate will enjoy the following benefits depending on subspecialty of choice: Dedicated sessions on Labour ward. 2PA/week dedicated clinical time to perioperative medicine Support and help to further develop a specialised area of your choice. Regular in-house teaching and training with regular ICM and Anaesthetic journal clubs. Easy to access study leave to attend major conferences. The post will appeal to a clinician who is looking to join a forward-thinking, motivated and friendly department who, in addition to striving for the best possible patient care, is keen to join a team of like-minded individuals., Clinical Services To provide, along with colleagues, an efficient and effective Anaesthetic service to Barnsley Hospital

• Provide anaesthetic services and assist in coordinating their delivery within the Trust, with a special interest in an area of choice
• Advise clinical colleagues on matters within his/her particular spheres of interest.
• To work closely with all members of the anaesthetic and theatre team in order to provide a comprehensive, high quality service in all clinical areas.
Training and Education To participate in the teaching and training programmes including:
• Joint responsibility for the training and education of the non-consultant medical staff within the department.
• Contribute to the training of medical students, nurses, theatre staff and paramedics.
• Involvement in post-graduate and continuing professional development for the department and Trust.
• To participate in the formal appraisal of junior medical staff in accordance with the guidelines from the Royal College of Anaesthetists and the Regional Postgraduate Dean. Develop as an Educational Supervisor.
