An exciting opportunity has arisen for a substantive Consultant in Acute Medicine to join our growing and forward-thinking team at University Hospitals Tees (UHT)., You will join a team of dedicated Acute Physicians delivering consultant-led care across the acute medical pathway, including:

  • Acute Assessment Units (AAU)
  • Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC)
  • Short Stay Medicine
  • The successful candidate will provide senior clinical decision-making for acutely unwell medical patients, contribute to service development, supervise and support trainees and locally employed doctors, and play an active role in clinical governance, education and quality improvement. What We Are Looking For Applicants must:
  • Hold full GMC registration.
  • Be on the GMC Specialist Register for General Internal Medicine/Acute Internal Medicine (or be within six months of CCT at interview).
  • Hold MRCP or equivalent.
  • Demonstrate excellent clinical skills in Acute Medicine.
  • Show evidence of leadership, quality improvement and multidisciplinary working.
  • Have a passion for developing services and improving patient outcomes.
  • Main duties of the job Core Functions: Maintain the highest clinical standards in the practice of Acute Medicine: leadership in a busy acute unit delivering comprehensive ward/board rounds enabling continuity of care and MDT involvement. Provide clinical and educational supervision and management of resident medical staff Be actively involved in the management of the department including attendance at the monthly Consultant and Directorate meetings, Audit Meetings and Consultant Away Days. Take part in annual appraisals (mandatory for all Consultants), carried out by the Clinical Director. Appropriate time and assistance will be provided for preparation. Active involvement in audit including at least one project annually Continuing professional development. The Trust supports requirements for CPD as laid down by the Royal Collages and is committed to providing support for these activities., This is an incredibly exciting time for our Acute Medical services, with exciting capital investment projects ahead; University Hospitals Tees is horizontally integrating clinical pathways across Acute services and undertaking service redesign. As part of our Acute Medicine team, you will be supporting:
  • Exciting service redesign programmes focused onSame Day Emergency Care (SDEC) designed to improve patient experience and reduce unnecessary admissions.
  • Major capital investment projects that will transform our clinical environments and enhance acute patient flow.
