Role profile
We are looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious solicitor at Senior Associate level to join our highly regarded national non-contentious construction team based in either Bristol or London with a focus on energy and energy transition projects. We are specifically looking for candidates with experience in advising on the drafting and negotiation of EPC, BOP, supply, and O&M contracts for renewables, energy storage, wind, and/or grid stability projects. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the ability to lead negotiation meetings (working alongside a junior associate) and to guide and manage client stakeholders through the negotiation process.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a well-respected team with a wide variety of interesting work and clients, and a real opportunity to grow and develop your own practice.
The practice
Our non-contentious construction practice is truly comprehensive in scope and features leading work on a national scale. It is a practice that the firm is actively looking to expand to complement and support Osborne Clarke's strategic direction, with energy and energy transition being central. Our work ranges from initial procurement advice and legal project management to negotiating complex construction agreements, typically based on FIDIC or NEC forms in the energy sector. We often remain involved in projects during delivery and operational phases, providing advice on contract management and variations, working alongside our contentious construction team on claims management and defects advice. We advise clients who are leaders in their fields, including Foresight, RWE, Ameresco, Octopus, Equitix, National Grid, Conrad, Bluefield, and Downing.
The team
The non-contentious construction team is led by partners Phil Davies, Alexandra Gower, Duncan Parker, and Nicholas Grewal, based across Bristol and London offices. Duncan and Nicholas focus on energy and infrastructure clients, and the successful candidate will work closely with them. The wider team comprises 1 Legal Director, 2 Associate Directors, 6 Senior Associates, 2 Associates, 2 Trainees, and 1 Paralegal.
Technical skills and experience
As this is a senior role, you will have experience managing construction aspects of complex matters, leading contract negotiations, and supervising junior lawyers when appropriate. You will have experience negotiating agreements based on FIDIC and NEC suites, as well as bespoke EPC and O&M arrangements. You will be used to working on matters involving multiple interested parties, particularly in project finance-led structures.
Your career development
Like all our lawyers, you will benefit from our multi-award-winning career development programme. At each stage of your career, this provides clear expectations of your role and progression, high-quality clients and work, early responsibility, thorough assessment and individual feedback, robust technical training tailored to you, and rewards for your contribution, progression, and potential, rather than PQE or tenure.
Our recruitment process
We welcome direct applications. For further information, please contact Angharad Jenkins in confidence. We review and progress applications on a rolling basis. Osborne Clarke does not use automated decision-making in recruitment. We are committed to providing an environment where you can perform to the best of your abilities at every stage of the recruitment process and beyond. If you require adjustments during the application, interview, or working phases, please let us know in confidence.
