So, join us as a Construction Health and Safety Manager and find your superpower., We are currently recruiting for a Construction Health & Safety Manager to join National Grid Ventures. Within the role you will play a pivotal role in delivering nationally significant energy infrastructure projects. You'll lead the development and implementation of safety strategies, drive compliance with industry standards and UK legislation, and foster a culture of continuous improvement across multidisciplinary teams. This is an opportunity to make a real impact-ensuring the safety and wellbeing of everyone involved while enabling the successful delivery of complex, high-profile construction projects. We offer flexible hybrid working arrangements. We'd hope to see you in our Warwick office one or 2 days a week or one of our base sites in the south east depending on your location, and there also may be some adhoc travel to different sites. The role also comes with a job requirement car. What you'll do

  • Lead a team managing Construction Health and Safety within NGV Interconnectors.
  • Lead construction H&S governance: Ensure the construction directorate has the appropriate safety governance in place across it's portfolio of projects.
  • Assure legal and standards compliance: Implement and monitor compliance with NGV safety standards (e.g., NGV SHS 36) and UK regulations, including CDM 2015 and the Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations.
  • Risk management: Oversee construction risk assessments (RAMS), temporary works safety, lifting operations, permit to work, confined space, and HV safety interfaces; verify effective controls and resilience.
  • Audit & investigation: Lead audits, inspections, and incident investigations; generate insights, trend analysis, and pragmatic improvement plans for sites and supply chain.
  • Contractor & supply chain engagement: Set clear safety expectations in contracts; coach principal contractors; verify competence; and ensure robust induction, toolbox talks, and supervision.
  • Training & culture: Design and deliver safety training and campaigns; promote "safety by design" and human performance principles; recognise and scale good practice.
  • Interfaces & collaboration: Coordinate with Engineering, Project Controls, Operations readiness, and SHEQ; maintain effective communication with partner organisations and main suppliers to embed a unified safety culture across projects.
  • Reporting & insight: Track KPIs (e.g., AFR/LTIFR, leading indicators, audit close out rates), produce executive reports, and recommend strategic actions to the Project Director.
  • Emergency preparedness: Maintain site emergency plans and drills; ensure readiness for high risk activities and seasonal/weather impacts.

    Proven experience managing construction health & safety on large, complex infrastructure (energy, utilities, civils, or industrial).

  • Deep working knowledge of CDM 2015, HSE guidance, and industry best practice; confidence applying NGV standards.
  • Strong stakeholder skills with the ability to engage, influence, and coach at all levels-clients, contractors, and partners.
  • Competence in auditing, incident investigation (e.g., ICAM), risk assessment, and performance reporting.
  • Relevant professional qualifications (e.g., NEBOSH Diploma, IOSH chartered membership) or equivalent experience.
  • Advantageous: experience with HVDC environments, offshore/onshore cable works, converter stations, or major civils.

    A competitive salary between £60,000 - £78,000 per annum - dependent on capability.
