Construction Environmental Advisor (North East)

As the country shifts away from traditional forms of fuel to heat homes, charge vehicles and power businesses, there is greater need for home-produced, clean electricity. The Eastern Green Link 1 (EGL1) project is making it happen. EGL1 is a two gigawatt high voltage direct current electrical connection to be built between Torness in East Lothian, Scotland and Hawthorn Pit in County Durham. The multi-billion-pound project is being developed through a joint venture between SP Energy Networks and National Grid Electricity Transmission. As a Construction Environmental Advisor, you'll act as a respected subject matter expert within the wider project team to ensure the work is delivered in a way that minimises the risk to the environment. Being a key person within the project delivering advice and support to the project team on relevant issues, you'll take a lead in monitoring of contractor performance and compliance. Developing a positive environmental culture across the project, you'll support the successful delivery of this high-profile construction project. This role is hybrid based, aligned to our North / North East projects therefore you'll be open to travel across sites in County Durham, England and East Lothian in Scotland a minimum of 3 days per week.,

• Work in partnership with joint venture environmental teams and key stakeholders to develop and implement the project's environmental management approach.
• Identify, manage and mitigate environmental risks across the project lifecycle.
• Communicate environmental requirements clearly and practically to project teams and wider stakeholders.
• Lead the development of environmental training, guidance and resources to build a strong environmental culture.
• Monitor and measure environmental performance, ensuring efficient and accurate reporting.
• Collaborate closely with contractor and project teams to drive environmental compliance.
• Support the investigation of environmental incidents and take the lead in ensuring lessons learned are shared and embedded across the project's supply chain.

• Environmental management experience within major project delivery.
• Strong understanding of environmental best practice and sustainable delivery.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills and confidence engaging at all levels.
• A genuine passion for driving positive environmental and sustainability culture.
• Excellent organisational, planning, and time management skills.
• Suitable technical/professional qualification and ISEP (or equivalent) membership is desirable.
• Full UK driving licence for travel across project locations.

A competitive salary between £54,000 - £65,000 - dependent on capability. As well as your base salary, you will receive a job requirement company car, a bonus based on personal performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.
