Your role and responsibilities Join our Transport NSIP and Technical Team, where you'll play a vital role in shaping Suffolk's infrastructure, including the Sizewell C development and other nationally significant infrastructure projects. You'll be part of a collaborative, supportive team, ensuring technical approval and inspection of highway improvements. Your key responsibilities include:
- Providing technical approval for major infrastructure projects, ensuring roads can be adopted as highways and protecting the Council's interests.
- Checking highway designs for developments to ensure that the proposed layouts and construction of highway improvements and new estate roads comply with SCC guidance
- Inspecting the construction of roads, footways and drainage comply with highway construction standards, specifications and design guides
- Working closely with colleagues across Transport Strategy to deliver seamless processes from consultation to project delivery.
- Negotiating with developers and consultants on technical solutions for road layouts, junctions, footpaths, drainage, and street lighting.
- Applying up-to-date knowledge of legislation, health and safety, and technical specifications.
- Accurately recording technical approval details and supporting the planning approval process.
- Representing Suffolk County Council at meetings and collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders, sometimes in complicated and sensitive areas., Flexible Working: Options include part-time, job sharing, compressed hours, term-time working, flexitime and hybrid/home working.

The team The Transport Strategy team is part of the Strategic Development division, helping to deliver growth in Suffolk. The team is responsible for:
- Developing transport policy, including the Local Transport Plan
- Securing funding, and the delivery of new transport infrastructure and initiatives

- Relevant Level 5/6 qualification or considerable highway design experience.
- Commitment to our values and to promoting sustainable transport.
- Strong communication skills for engaging with a variety of audiences and be able to solve complex and wide-ranging problems.
- Experience in transport strategy, engineering, and (ideally) construction site work.
- Good working knowledge of relevant legislation, technical frameworks, and local government.
- Ability to manage your own time and work collaboratively.
- Ability to interpret drawings, specifications and technical documentation.
