Experteer Overview As the central microbiology authority for THG Nutrition, you will shape group-wide microbiological strategy and governance. You will influence multiple sites and suppliers, making risk-based decisions that ensure food safety and product quality. You'll integrate scientific insight with operations to drive consistent standards across a global manufacturing network. This role offers strategic impact, cross-functional collaboration, and the chance to advance a leading health and wellbeing movement. You will act as the expert voice on microbiology, enabling safe, compliant, and high-quality products at scale. Pay / Benefits

  • Own and define the group microbiological strategy across all sites and product categories Manage relationships with contract laboratories used for testing Act as final escalation point and decision-maker for microbiological risk, deviations, and incidents Establish and maintain risk-based microbiological criteria, specifications, and testing strategies Provide input into shelf-life determination, challenge testing, and validation of control measures Develop and implement harmonised microbiological standards across supplier base, internal sites and third-party manufacturers Ensure alignment with BRCGS, retailer standards, and international regulatory requirements Lead microbiological input into HACCP reviews and ensure hazards are identified and controlled Define and standardise environmental monitoring programmes across the manufacturing network Lead microbiological risk assessments across raw materials, processes, and finished products Own high-risk incident management including pathogen detections and corrective actions Provide technical oversight to central teams, site technical teams, and third-party manufacturers Develop predictive microbiology approaches and KPIs for microbiological performance at group level Collaborate with Operations, Technical, NPD, and Commercial teams to embed microbiological risk management throughout the product lifecycle Act as the microbiology lead in customer and regulatory interactions when required Tasks Degree (or higher) in Microbiology, Food Microbiology, or a closely related discipline Extensive experience in food manufacturing with deep microbiological risk expertise in complex environments Proven track record in a senior technical role influencing multiple sites or business units Advanced knowledge of pathogens of concern (e.g. Salmonella, Listeria, E. coli) and control strategies Experience with environmental monitoring and hygienic zoning concepts Shelf-life validation, challenge testing, and predictive microbiology HACCP methodology and risk assessment frameworks Strong working knowledge of BRCGS and global food safety standards Credible technical authority capable of influencing senior stakeholders Decisive, analytical, and able to make risk-based decisions under pressure Strong communication skills to translate complex risk into actionable steps Key requirements Career development programmes Enhanced annual leave Enhanced maternity/paternity pay Volunteer leave up to 2 days On-site gym and wellbeing support Staff discount on THG brands
