The role involves conducting comprehensive mental health and risk assessments, developing and implementing crisis care plans, and delivering short-term therapeutic interventions. Practitioners work in fast-paced environments, often responding to referrals from A&E, community services, GPs, and other agencies, ensuring prompt and safe decision-making. A core element of the role is effective risk management, including assessing risk of harm to self or others and implementing appropriate safeguarding measures. As a senior member of the team, the Band 6 practitioner provides clinical leadership, supporting junior staff, students, and support workers through supervision and guidance. They contribute to service improvement, audit, and quality initiatives, ensuring adherence to professional standards, policies, and evidence-based practice. Strong communication and partnership working skills are essential, particularly when engaging with service users, families, and carers during times of crisis. The role requires resilience, flexibility, and the ability to prioritise effectively in high-pressure situations.
