Full Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in supporting community engagement and regeneration activity in Nelson, working closely with residents, partners, and stakeholders to deliver meaningful and lasting change. Reporting to the Programme Manager (Nelson Pride in Place), you will lead on community engagement and development activity, helping to shape and deliver initiatives that support the NPiP programme. You will:

  • Enable proactive engagement with residents, businesses, and community, voluntary and faith groups
  • Develop and support community-led initiatives and build local capacity
  • Coordinate engagement across all NPiP projects
  • Organise events, training, and networking opportunities
  • Build strong relationships with partners, stakeholders, and local organisations
  • Support monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of programme activity
  • Contribute to wider council objectives and regeneration priorities

    Pendle Borough Council is seeking a motivated and passionate individual to join the Nelson Pride in Place (NPiP) programme as a Community Development Officer (to cover maternity leave) supported by the Programme Manager., Has a strong track record in community development, particularly within disadvantaged communities
  • Has experience planning and delivering community events and engagement activities
  • Communicates effectively with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Can manage competing priorities and work both independently and as part of a team
  • Is confident using Microsoft Office and digital engagement tools
  • Understands regeneration programmes and community cohesion

    Flexible working, including no set core hours, up to 2 flexi days per month, and compressed hours
  • Up to 31 days annual leave
  • Flexible contracts requiring 2-3 days in the office each week (more if needed), so you should live within commuting distance of Nelson, Lancashire
