Role profile
We have an exciting new opportunity for a Senior Associate in our Commercial Disputes team, focusing in particular on insurance coverage and litigation for policyholders (but with scope to maintain a broader commercial litigation practice alongside this work). This opportunity is available on a permanent, full-time basis and we're open to considering candidates wishing to be based in any of our three UK offices (London, Reading and Bristol).
The practice
The insurance team sits within our wider commercial disputes team, which acts on a wide range of litigation and crisis management mandates for a broad range of international and domestic clients, including market leaders in technology and telecoms, life sciences and energy sectors in particular.
We are frequently asked to represent clients on complex insurance disputes, primarily on behalf of policyholders. Insurance instructions include contentious matters advising on policy coverage, assisting clients with claims preparation and advocacy, coverage litigation and arbitration. In addition, the team handle an increasing volume of noncontentious matters including policy advisory work, advising on transactional insurance policies, and other insurance advisory work.
Due to the nature of the practice, issues arise in relation to many different classes of business including Cyber, D&O, E&O, Property, Energy, Casualty, Constructions and W&I.
Technical skills and experience
You will be a commercial litigator with experience in providing coverage advice, on behalf of policyholders or insurers and with an interest in developing these skills in a fast-growing policyholder focused insurance practice.
Ideally, you will also have some experience of providing noncontentious insurance advice or be keen to develop this part of your practice. Familiarity with multiple classes of insurance business is also an advantage.
The nature of the practice is such that you should have a good grasp of basic aspects of insurance law so that you feel confident in providing practical advice and guidance on a wide spectrum of insurance issues (with partner level support where required). You should also have a keen eye for detail and the ability to provide careful and concise advice. You will also have experience of UK coverage litigation and/or arbitration.
Due to the nature of the work and the structure of the team, we are looking for an Associate or Senior Associate, although we will consider candidates with more or less experience.
Your career development
Like all our lawyers, you will benefit from our multi-award winning career development programme. At each stage of your career this provides you with:
- Clear expectations of your role and what it takes to progress;
- High quality clients and work, with early responsibility and client exposure;
- Thorough assessment and individual feedback from a range of experienced colleagues;

- And reward for your contribution, progression and potential, rather than PQE or tenure.
Salary and benefits
We offer competitive salaries and generous benefits.
