Salary: Additional benefits
Package: 47,760 to 60,000 (depending on experience)
Location: Reading, with free onsite parking
Working pattern: AWE operates a 9-day working fortnight, with every other Friday as a non-working day. This role is eligible for hybrid working, with employees typically spending three days on site in a long week and two days in a short week. We support flexible working including part-time and varied hours; please let us know if you would like us to consider an alternative working arrangement.

As the Commercial Capability Manager, your primary responsibility is to develop and embed a full capability framework covering competencies, training, development, and mentoring. You will identify and evaluate skill gaps within Commercial and implement training programmes to bridge those gaps. You will work closely with department heads to understand the specific knowledge and expertise required for each role and develop tailored development plans. This role reports to the Senior Capability Manager.
Key Accountabilities
- Managing and fostering effective relationships with external governing bodies (MOD, DNO, CAB) and identifying opportunities for collaboration across government commercial skills and development.
- Defining the Commercial competency framework and career pathways.
- Managing Commercial training plans and associated providers, ensuring full leverage of AWE training providers.
- Collaborating with wider AWE HR and talent teams to align with employee development processes, tools, and procedures.
- Overseeing the Commercial skills and development programme and budget.
- Understanding capability development demand and market trends across people development.
- Analyzing skills gaps and developing plans to bridge them across Commercial.
- Implementing a Commercial mentoring programme to nurture internal talent.
Desired Experience and Skills
- Proven professional experience.
- Experience in a Procurement / Commercial function.
- Experience within HR or related functions with a focus on skills and development.
- Highly skilled in stakeholder management, with effective tools and strategies to create business alignment and influence decisions.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and changing priorities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong management and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Excel.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to engage colleagues across different teams and seniority levels.
- Collaborative working style.

Whilst not to be considered a tick list, we'd like you to have experience in some of the following: Must have proven professional experience.
