Location and Working Pattern: Reading, with free onsite parking. AWE operates a 9-day working fortnight, with every other Friday as a non-working day. This role is eligible for hybrid working, typically spending three days on site in a long week and two in a short week. Flexible working options, including part-time and varied hours, are supported.

This role provides an opportunity for you to contribute significantly as the Commercial Capability Manager. Your primary responsibility will be to develop and embed a comprehensive capability framework covering competencies, training, development, and mentoring. You will identify and evaluate skill gaps within Commercial, implement training programs to address these gaps, and work closely with department heads to tailor development plans based on specific role requirements. The role reports to the Senior Capability Manager.
Key Accountabilities
- Manage and foster effective relationships with external governing bodies (MOD, DNO, CAB), providing visibility and influencing changes, and identifying opportunities for cross-government collaboration in commercial skills and development.
- Define the Commercial competency framework and career pathways.
- Develop and oversee Commercial training plans and manage associated training providers, ensuring effective leverage of AWE’s training resources.
- Collaborate with HR and talent teams to align with wider employee development processes, tools, and procedures.
- Manage the Commercial skills and development program and budget.
- Understand capability development demand and market trends to define Commercial requirements for best-in-class capability growth.
- Analyze skills gaps and develop plans to bridge these within the Commercial team.
- Implement and roll out a Commercial mentoring program to nurture internal talent.
Desired Experience and Skills
- Proven professional experience, ideally within a Procurement or Commercial function.
- Experience in HR or related people functions with a focus on skills and development.
- Highly skilled in stakeholder management, influencing decision-making and creating business alignment.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and shifting priorities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong management and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel.
- Strong organizational, time management, and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to engage colleagues across different teams and levels, working collaboratively.
