- Salary and Benefits: Additional benefits. Commercial Capability Manager Package: 47,760 to 60k (depending on experience). Location: Reading, with free onsite parking. Working pattern: AWE operates a 9-day working fortnight, with every other Friday as a non-working day. This role is eligible for hybrid working, typically spending three days on site in a long week and two days on site in a short week. We support flexible working including part-time and varied hours.

As the Commercial Capability Manager, your primary responsibility is to develop and embed a full capability framework covering competencies, training, development, and mentoring. You will need to identify and evaluate skill gaps within Commercial and implement training programs to bridge those gaps. Working closely with department heads, you will understand the specific knowledge and expertise required for each role and develop tailored development plans. This role reports to the Senior Capability Manager.
Key Accountabilities
- Managing and fostering effective relationships with external governing bodies (MOD, DNO, CAB), providing visibility and influence of any change, and identifying opportunities for collaboration across government commercial skills and development.
- Defining the Commercial competency framework and career pathways.
- Managing Commercial training plans and associated training providers, ensuring full leverage of AWE training resources.
- Ensuring full alignment with AWE HR and talent teams to support employee development processes, tools, and procedures.
- Overseeing the Commercial skills and development program and budget.
- Understanding capability development demand and market trends to define Commercial requirements for best-in-class capability development.
- Analyzing skills gaps and developing plans to bridge them across Commercial.
- Rolling out a Commercial mentoring program to nurture and develop internal talent.
Desired Experience and Skills
- Proven professional experience, especially in a Procurement or Commercial function.
- Experience within HR or related fields focusing on skills and development.
- Highly skilled in stakeholder management with effective tools and strategies for business alignment and influence.
- Comfortable with ambiguity and changing priorities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong management and analytical skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Attention to detail and ability to engage colleagues across teams and seniority levels.
- Ability to work collaboratively.
