What it's like to work here
At the National Trust, we care for nature, beauty and history for everyone, for ever. Commercial operations play a vital role in supporting this work, and you'll be part of a collaborative team that values creativity, efficiency and continuous improvement. What you'll be doing
Leading a team of Commercial Managers, you'll ensure food & beverage and retail operations deliver agreed financial contributions and exceptional service. You'll work with General Managers and property teams to integrate commercial plans into local business strategies, using national frameworks and toolkits to achieve consistency and quality.
Budget planning and long-term forecasting will be part of your remit, alongside translating national plans into local delivery. You'll drive performance improvements, identify new income opportunities, and share best practice across the wider area manager cohort.
Risk management and compliance will be a priority, ensuring operations meet all legislative and Trust standards, from food safety to cash handling. Building capability within your team will be central to the role. Recruiting, coaching and developing managers to enhance skills and prepare for future growth.
You'll influence visitor infrastructure projects where needed, ensuring commercial opportunities are maximised without compromising the visitor experience. Collaboration will be key, working with internal stakeholders and external partners to deliver seamless operations and innovate where possible.
Strong commercial acumen with experience in food & beverage and/or retail operations Proven track record of managing budgets and delivering financial performance Experience of leading large teams and driving behavioural change Skilled in coaching, mentoring and building capability Ability to analyse data and identify opportunities for improvement Knowledge of compliance requirements, including food safety and cash management
The National Trust is committed to promoting and preserving those places of natural beauty and historic interest for which it has the privilege to be responsible for the benefit of the nation, for everyone for ever.
The Trust is proud of what has been achieved over the last 126 years and is determined to maintain those high standards of conservation, stewardship and curatorial care for which it has been recognised throughout the world.
Its achievements have enabled the general public and the Trust's members and visitors to enjoy and appreciate the countryside, coastline, gardens, historic buildings and collections, all of which encapsulate so much of the history of England, Wales and Northern Ireland. There is a duty to tell that history in a complete, balanced and accurate way, and without judgement.
The National Trust continues as a guardian of the past, and for the future, to uphold its duty to maintain and enhance what has been entrusted to its care.
