Full Job Description

The Bulmershe School is a heavily oversubscribed school which sits at the heart of our community. We are a mixed Corvus Learning Trust Academy school of 1,500 students, who come from diverse backgrounds and cultures. We work closely with our parents, partners and feeder schools to achieve the best outcomes for all of our students. We are seeking a committed volunteer to join our Local Governing Body and support the strategic direction of our vibrant, inclusive community. In this rewarding role, you will work within a supportive Multi-Academy Trust framework, gaining access to comprehensive governor induction, ongoing training and professional development while making a lasting impact on our students. We welcome applications from the wider community rather than our current parents, as this specific co-opted role is designed to bring outside skills and a fresh, independent perspective to our board. This role is built on partnership. Local Governors work alongside the Headteacher and staff team, offering encouragement, thoughtful challenge and strategic oversight so that leaders and staff are well supported to do their best work for young people. Governors operate within a clear scheme of delegation, with a strong focus on safeguarding, culture, wellbeing, behaviour, attendance and the quality of education, rather than day-to-day operational matters. Why become a Governor at Bulmershe?

  • Support an environment where every student is valued, understood and encouraged to reach their full potential.
  • Contribute your skills, experience and ideas to decisions that can positively influence young people's educational journeys and future opportunities.

  • Performance Monitoring: Monitor academic performance, challenge leadership constructively and hold the Headteacher accountable for pupil outcomes.
  • School Governance: Act as a link governor, participate in governor training and champion safeguarding, equality and pupil wellbeing.
  • Community Engagement: Work collaboratively with trust colleagues, staff and local stakeholders to promote the school and support our inclusive ethos.
  • You do not need previous governance experience to become a local governor, but we would welcome someone who has strong strategic oversight, analytical skills and the time to commit to meetings, training and school visits. Being part of governance at Bulmershe is an opportunity to support the Headteacher and staff to help ensure that young people are given consistency, care and clear pathways towards adulthood. Please read the vacancy document to find out more and express your interest today. The Bulmershe School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Appointments are subject to enhanced DBS clearance and satisfactory employment references. Note: This job description is not your contract of employment or any part of it. It has been prepared only for the purpose of school organisation and may change either as your contract changes or as the organisation of the school is changed. Nothing will be changed without consultation.
