Blatch is a thriving and successful secondary school with over 1600 students across years 7 - 11 and 230 members of staff. It serves and supports a diverse population of families across the city of Brighton and Hove and is very popular in its local community. It is consistently oversubscribed year-on-year and is on a sound financial footing. Achievement levels are high: students thrive academically and socially and achieve excellent outcomes. There is a clear focus on developing the whole child at the school, valuing the educational benefits of the full curriculum, alongside excellent pastoral care.
Helping to drive that success is the Governing Board, and we are seeking enthusiastic and committed individuals to join it. As a team of volunteers, we hold the school to account, shape the vision and strategic direction and ensure the school's long term financial viability. Being a governor is a rewarding role that provides a unique opportunity to make a difference to young people's lives.
We don't expect you to be an expert in education: we welcome governors from all walks of life to bring different perspectives and views. Your own lived experience, insights, knowledge and expertise is what matters. There are also opportunities to work within committees that address specific aspects of the school and take on link roles that can reflect your own interests or passions.
We recognise that being a governor is a commitment, so we have in place policies to support flexible meetings, as well as provisions to cover reasonable costs that may be incurred such as childcare. We will also provide support, training and mentoring to make sure your governance journey is a successful one.
All expressions of interest can be submitted using the application form provided following which you will be invited to meet informally with two or three governors to discuss the role in more detail.
Please forward your expression of interest by email to:Clerk to Governors by email
CVs alone cannot be considered, but if you would also like to provide one, we would be delighted to look at it.
Blatchington Mill School is committed to safeguarding our students; we expect all staff and volunteers to support this commitment. Criminal record checks will be carried out and a full, enhanced DBS clearance is required for all positions.
Applications are encouraged from black and ethnic minority candidates, as these groups are under-represented on the school's staff. (Race Relations Act sections 35-38 apply).
