About the Role: As Cluster Lead for Science at Oldbury Wells School, you will be working at a fantastic school, with fantastic learners and a brilliant community. You will play a central role in shaping the quality of teaching and learning across the Science department. Working closely with the Headteacher and senior leaders, you will lead the strategic development of Science provision, ensuring that all learners benefit from high-quality learning experiences, strong academic outcomes, and an engaging, ambitious curriculum. A key aspect of the role is a strong commitment to inclusive and adaptive practice. You will ensure that teaching within the Science department meets the needs of all learners, including those eligible for Pupil Premium (PPG), learners with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND), and those who may be vulnerable or face additional barriers to learning. Through effective use of assessment, high expectations, and well-planned adaptive strategies, you will promote equity, inclusion, and progress for every learner. You will champion innovation, promote consistently high standards that enable all learners to succeed. As part of the wider leadership team, you will contribute positively to the ethos, values, and continual improvement of Oldbury Wells School. Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure consistently high-quality teaching, effective deployment of resources, and sustained improvement in learning and achievement for all learners, working in close partnership with the Headteacher, Senior Line Manager, wider SLT team and other Heads of Cluster.
  • Drive improvements in learners' outcomes in Science through high expectations, well-sequenced curriculum design, and strong, evidence-informed pedagogical practice.
  • Promote inclusive and adaptive teaching approaches that meet the needs of all learners, including those eligible for Pupil Premium (PPG), learners with SEND, and those facing additional barriers to learning.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development, review, and implementation of Science policies, procedures, and assessment practices in line with whole-school priorities.
  • Provide strategic leadership for Science across the school by developing, implementing, and evaluating improvement plans with clear targets, success criteria, and measurable impact.
  • Teach across a range of subjects, as required, to support the effective delivery of the whole-school curriculum, including provision delivered in off-site settings such as college environments where appropriate.
  • Undertake additional curriculum leadership responsibilities, as agreed with the Headteacher, to support whole-school improvement and effectiveness.
  • Actively promote and model a strong commitment to the learning, personal development, wellbeing, and engagement of all learners.
  • General Responsibilities
  • Safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people at all times, in accordance with statutory guidance and school policy.
  • Work in line with professional standards, statutory requirements, and all school policies and procedures.
  • Carry out designated duties related to the effective day-to-day organisation and administration of the school.
  • Take responsibility for identified areas of leadership or development, reviewed annually through performance management and aligned with school improvement priorities.
  • Undertake any additional responsibilities reasonably assigned to support the effective operation and continued development of the school.
