Full Job Description
Flexible working arrangements may be considered and discussions with the recruiting manager regarding this are encouraged., In this role, you will be based at Birmingham Children's Hospital, working across the Emergency Department and the Undergraduate Medical Education Department. Post holders will deliver paediatric and child health education to medical students and physician associate students from the University of Birmingham and Aston University, contributing to teaching within both the academic programme and the Paediatric Emergency Department. The role includes a combination of clinical and non-clinical teaching responsibilities.

Therefore, unfortunately we are unable to provide a visa sponsorship on this occasion., You will join a team of committed clinical teachers and tutors and contribute to the design, development, delivery, and assessment of undergraduate education in paediatrics and child health within the Trust.
You will be expected to undertake the following responsibilities:
Teaching Responsibilities
+ Deliver regular clinical teaching to medical students and physician associate students using a service-based learning and modern clinical apprenticeship model
+ Contribute to teaching during paediatric academic programmes for medical and physician associate students
+ Participate in the delivery of structured teaching, including simulation-based education, clinical skills teaching, and induction programmes
+ Support the organisation and delivery of undergraduate examinations in collaboration with the Undergraduate Medical Education (UGME) team
+ Design, undertake, and evaluate a project within an area of paediatric medical education
+ Attend UGME educational and academic meetings, as agreed with the Head and/or Deputy Head of Academy
+ Deliver agreed educational and quality targets, in line with internal objectives and university requirements
+ Be accountable for the delivery and quality of teaching to the Head of Academy
Clinical Responsibilities
+ In addition to educational duties, contribute to the clinical management of patients within the Paediatric Emergency Department
+ Provide expert clinical opinion across a broad range of emergency and elective paediatric presentations
+ Take full and independent responsibility for clinical assessment, investigation, management, and ongoing care of patients, appropriate to level of experience
+ Demonstrate safe, effective decision-making within a busy tertiary paediatric emergency department, with appropriate escalation and multidisciplinary team working
Professional Responsibilities
+ Work collaboratively with local managers and professional colleagues to support the effective and efficient delivery of undergraduate medical education within the Trust
+ Comply with the Trust's Terms and Conditions of Service and adhere to all relevant Trust policies, procedures, and professional standards
+ Participate fully in continuing professional development and the Trust's appraisal processes
+ Maintain awareness of, and responsibility for, health and safety requirements, attending mandatory training as required
+ Uphold Trust-wide standards to support continuous improvement in the quality of care and educational experience across Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Trust
MENTAL HEALTH DIVISION:
Our current Mental Health Services division Tier 4 services may be transferring the provision if its services to Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership Trust (CWPT). Whilst at present you are applying for a position within Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation should you be successful in gaining a position with Mental Health Services, your employment may in the future be transferred over to CWPT.

We are seeking to appoint two enthusiastic and highly motivated Clinical Teaching Fellows in Paediatric Emergency Medicine to join our Undergraduate Medical Education Team.
This is a fixed-term post for one year, with an anticipated start date of August or September 2026. The role offers you the opportunity to develop as confident and competent medical educator while gaining valuable experience in paediatric emergency medicine within a tertiary children's hospital.
