Full Job Description
Stroke Medicine is evolving rapidly. At UHSx we are ahead of the game with a team of dynamic and enthusiastic colleagues, exploring different ways of working and expanding our department, services and staff. We are not the finished article, but in the UK we are leading the way.
Based at the Royal Sussex County Hospital Comprehensive Stroke Centre, we treat 650 patients a year with stroke and our service includes the whole spectrum from thrombolysis, thrombectomy and after-stroke care. Our close links with Brighton and Sussex Medical School means you can also inspire new generations of doctors.
We have 24/7 consultant delivered care. We are developing a sustainable workforce able to facilitate delivering care, not just now, but also in 20 years time. We welcome applications from those with interests outside the hospital clinical space, for example in pre-hospital medicine, research and education as our flexible timetable can accommodate most requests.
The 12 month post (FT or LTFT) comes with 75% of time dedicated to teaching, audits, QIP and multi-centre research. The clinical time (25%) is to work in the Stroke Unit to facilitate the above interests and help with clinical activities., The clinical duties of the post include the following:
It is expected that the successful applicant(s) undertake full clinical/ teaching duties as listed below.
Responsible for all teaching aspects of the Stroke component and Geriatrics Medicine component of module 306. Attendances in weekly 3-hour teaching sessions, as part of a planned ward round Rota. Assist with enabling teaching in the Stroke Unit and co-ordinating students. Evidence of output for the non-clinical project time. This could be a research, audit or QIP project. Clinical work to be undertaken as part of the above activities as a Junior Doctor on the wards.
