Full Job Description
The role will be clinically focussed, with the post holder undertaking scanning sessions, in conjunction with non-clinical duties. As we are a tertiary referral centre a proportion of the workload is specialised and requires advanced knowledge. The service covers all aspects of Obstetrics and gynaecology, all general US, small parts, MSK and Neuro. The post-holder will be regarded as a senior specialist sonographer with skills across general and Obs/Gynae ultrasound and the ability to scan and report autonomously in at least one specialised field. They will be able to demonstrate specialised knowledge and expertise to support the US consultant roles sonographers and Ultrasound managers in service delivery. The role requires the successful candidate to develop an innovative team that demonstrates a leading edge-based practice in our ultrasound department, therefore, ensuring delivery of an effective, high quality and evidence-based ultrasound service for our patient care. Develop a
future vision and strategies for Sonography services at NUH and in the East Midlands. To be responsible for the training and educational strategy and implementation in Ultrasound leading on the training of students, Sonographers and Resident Doctors in all the relevant aspects of ultrasound practice including their individual development needs in a motivational manner
Main duties of the job
To provide an efficient, high quality ultrasound service with comprehensive unsupervised scans and written reports
To participate in the vetting and prioritising of US examinations according to departmental and national guidelines
Maintain a high standard of patient care and provide an excellent experience for patients
To independently undertake ultrasound examinations using a high level of specialist knowledge in line with local, regional and national guidance
To be responsible for the professional leadership and training of the sonography team
To undertake the measurement and evaluation of own and others current practices using evidence-based practice projects, audit, outcome measures and benchmarking.
Oversee the supervision, education and performance of students and trainees to ensure the standard of practice and teaching meets the standards set to the appropriate qualification
To undertake appraisals of immediate subordinates, setting objectives and identifying training needs, to meet department and individual goals
To lead the non-medical Ultrasound clinical audit, research and innovation programme on behalf of the department.
To lead and support the evaluation of the effectiveness of the service through clinical audit in liaison with the other clinical and medical leaders in Radiology and other relevant stakeholders.
