This coordinated research expansion plan sits under the umbrella of The Christie 2030 Research Programme and the Neuro-Oncology Disease Group, which aims to substantially increase research output within Neuro-oncology through increased delivery of innovative investigator-led studies. A key part of this process is to encourage education and empowerment of research staff at all levels, which includes training the next generation of cancer research leaders.

This position is suitable for an enthusiastic and research-motivated applicant with a Medical degree and FRCR, has direct clinical experience in radiotherapy, chemotherapy and clinical trial delivery in Neuro-Oncology, who can demonstrate commitment to a career in Clinical Oncology and has an interest in gaining further a higher research degree (MD) and clinical trial experience in the Neuro-Oncology disease group area. The successful candidates must hold full General Medical Council (GMC) registration and have International English Language Testing System (IELTS) proficiency at the time of post commencement, as appropriate. The Fellowship is a full-time position for 2 years, to support clinical research and to provide specialist experience and training for the successful applicant.Informal enquiries may be made to the disease group contacts, as detailed within the job description.

The postholder will contribute to the delivery of high-quality consultant-led care across 7 days. This includes participation in planned weekend and weekday clinical activity to support safe, timely decision-making and continuity of care for patients.

The Christie is one of Europe's leading cancer centres, treating over 60,000 patients a year. We are based in Manchester and serve a population of 3.2 million across Greater Manchester & Cheshire, but as a national specialist around 15% patients are referred to us from other parts of the country. We provide radiotherapy through one of the largest radiotherapy departments in the world; chemotherapy on site and through 14 other hospitals; highly specialist surgery for complex and rare cancer; and a wide range of support and diagnostic services. We are also an international leader in research, with world first breakthroughs for over 100 years. We run one of the largest early clinical trial units in Europe with over 300 trials every year. Cancer research in Manchester, most of which is undertaken on the Christie site, has been officially ranked the best in the UK.
