Clinical Research Fellow in Women's Health & Fetal MRI

This post offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to pioneering translational research at the intersection of obstetrics and imaging. The successful candidate will be a key member of a multidisciplinary team working on a major study investigating how pregnancy exposures may influence childhood risk of type 1 diabetes. The role is ideally suited to a medically qualified individual with a strong interest in maternal-fetal medicine, imaging, and clinical research. The postholder will be responsible for recruiting and consenting pregnant participants into ongoing research studies, ensuring all procedures comply with ethical and regulatory standards. They will coordinate and facilitate MRI scanning appointments in collaboration with the Early Life Imaging team, and act as the primary point of contact for study participants-providing a high standard of care and communication throughout their involvement. The role also involves maintaining accurate and timely data entry into clinical and research databases, and liaising with a wide range of professionals including scientists, obstetricians, and research midwives to ensure smooth study delivery. In addition to supporting data collection, the postholder will contribute to the analysis and interpretation of imaging and clinical data, and assist in the preparation of scientific outputs such as abstracts, presentations, and manuscripts. They will participate in regular team meetings and play an active role in the academic environment of the Women and Children's Health and Early Life Imaging groups. There will also be opportunities to support the development of future research protocols and grant applications. This role offers excellent scope for developing clinical research and MRI-related skills in a supportive and innovative research setting. This is a full-time post (40 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 30/11/2029.

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience: Essential criteria

• MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
• GMC registration: must hold full registration and a license to practise with the General Medical Council (GMC) in the UK.
• Understanding of clinical research and imaging in pregnancy: demonstrates knowledge of research principles, ethics, and the role of imaging (especially MRI) in obstetric research.
• Clinical experience in managing pregnancy complications: experience in the clinical care of conditions such as threatened preterm birth, diabetes in pregnancy, and other common obstetric complications.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills: proven ability to build rapport with patients and colleagues, communicate complex information clearly, and adapt language to suit different audiences.
• Organisational and planning skills: ability to manage time effectively, prioritise tasks, and coordinate clinical and research activities, including participant recruitment and scheduling.
Desirable criteria
• National Training Number (NTN) in Obstetrics & Gynaecology or Equivalent.
• Experience in fetal or perinatal imaging: prior involvement in imaging-based research or clinical practice, particularly MRI, is advantageous.
• Interest in maternal-fetal immunology or autoimmunity: a demonstrated interest in the biological mechanisms underlying pregnancy and infant health.
• Track record of academic output: evidence of research experience, including publications, presentations, or involvement in grant-funded projects.
• IT and data management skills: familiarity with clinical databases, research data entry, and basic data analysis tools.
  
  We are looking for a Clinical Research Fellow to join the King's College London Department of Women and Children's Health under the supervision of Professor Rachel Tribe and Professor Deena Gibbons, working in close collaboration with Dr Lisa Story and the Early Life Imaging team. The post will be based at the St Thomas' Hospital campus and the postholder will be responsible for pregnant participant recruitment and follow-up for advanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) (fetal imaging), a sub-study of the PISA (Prenatal Influences on the Development of Infant Autoimmunity) project funded by The Leona M. and Harry B.
