Clinical Research Fellow in General Surgery

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, innovative, and progressive researcher to join our team. The appointee will significantly contribute to the design and delivery of the MASBO Research Study. This is a joint project with University of Birmingham and is open to both medics and non-medics. The post will be expected to work across all SWB sites as well as the University of Birmingham. Applicants should demonstrate within their application that they are research experienced in an NHS setting and have undertaken Good clinical Practice Training.This Job is fixed term for 12 months starting as soon as possible., This post is suitable for those who are at ST1/2 medical or surgical level or above or are an experienced allied health professional (nurse, midwife, healthcare scientist, cardiac physiologist, pharmacist etc), and have undertaken a PhD. This is a newly created research post which provides an opportunity of conducting research in a multi-disciplinary team with a collaboration between surgery and palliative care. The candidate will be mentored and supervised by Miss Hema Sekhar, Consultant Colorectal Surgeon.The post will enable the successful applicant to develop research skills. The appointee will be part of the MASBO study research team, participate in the methodological design of the study, writing protocols, collecting research data and present outputs from the research. The appointee will perform a scoping review on the topic of metastatic small bowel obstruction and perform qualitative research to explore with patients, family members and carers their experiences regarding having
metastatic small bowel obstruction, as well as with health professionals of managing the condition. This information will then be used to explore the development of interventional bundles and guidelines development for metastatic small bowel obstruction.The post will primarily be based at Midland Metropolitan University Hospital. Additionally, some of the research activities, such as interviews, are likely to take place across a number of sites. There are no fixed clinical duties.
