RDM Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, OX3 9DU The University of Oxford is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Clinical Research Fellow in Interventional Cardiology to join the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine, one of the University's leading research divisions. About the role This fellowship provides an outstanding opportunity to undertake high-impact clinical research within one of the UK's leading academic interventional cardiology programmes. The successful candidate will contribute to a portfolio of investigator-led studies and international clinical trials focused on coronary intervention, reperfusion therapies, coronary physiology, and advanced intracoronary imaging. The post has a strong emphasis on intravascular imaging, including Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) and Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS), encompassing image acquisition, analysis, interpretation, and the development of novel imaging biomarkers. The successful applicant will play a key role in studies investigating plaque morphology, thrombus characterisation, coronary physiology, microvascular obstruction, and optimisation of percutaneous coronary intervention using state-of-the-art intracoronary imaging technologies. Opportunities will also exist to contribute to complementary multimodality imaging and translational cardiovascular research projects. The Fellow will be based within the Acute Multidisciplinary Imaging and Interventional Centre (AMIIC), an internationally recognised centre for innovation in cardiovascular imaging, artificial intelligence, translational medicine, and complex coronary intervention. The post offers the opportunity to work alongside internationally recognised leaders in interventional cardiology, collaborating with imaging specialists, scientists and multidisciplinary research teams to translate novel technologies and therapeutic strategies into improvements in patient care.
The successful Clinical Research Fellow will have relevant clinical experience in cardiology together with experience in clinical research and routine clinical audit. Excellent organisational, communication, leadership and interpersonal skills are essential. Previous experience in the analysis and interpretation of intracoronary imaging (particularly OCT and/or IVUS) is highly desirable, as the successful candidate will contribute to several imaging-intensive investigator-led studies and multicentre clinical trials where intravascular imaging forms a central component of the research programme. Experience in coronary physiology, image core laboratory activities, quantitative image analysis, or participation in interventional cardiology clinical trials would be an advantage. This position is particularly suited to doctors approaching completion of specialist training in interventional cardiology who wish to gain advanced experience in translational cardiovascular research before taking up a substantive consultant appointment.
