Full Job Description
Band 7 - Clinical Psychologist for Specialist Children and Young People Services (SCYPS) and Autism Diagnostic Service (CHAND)
Paediatric Community Services - Newham, East London Foundation Trust
Are you an innovative, creative clinical psychologist interested in autism? Would you like to bring your clinical skills to be an integral part of SCYPS and support continuous improvement?, In Sanskrit based languages such as Bengali/Urdu/Hindi/Punjabi, 'Chand' means 'the moon' or 'to shine'. In old English and French 'Chand' comes from the word for candle - as in Chandelier.
Here at the CHAND service we take referrals from professionals, for children aged 2- 17 years, where there are concerns about the possibility of Autism. Working with families, our multidisciplinary team will gather information and observations, aiming to form a unique picture of the child's abilities and challenges. In the near future we will continue building on the service to also assess co-morbid conditions to provide a broader picture of the child's neuro developmental profile.
1. The post holder will undertake joint ASC assessments within the CHAND diagnostic service and contribute to diagnostic discussions. They will consult to the wider team on psychological formulations and mental health presentations, linking with wider CAMHS colleagues in Newham CAMHS as appropriate. They will conduct cognitive and adaptive functioning assessments when needed. They will clinically supervise the Assistant Psychologist in the team and link with the Educational Psychologists and other Clinical Psychologists from the service.
The successful applicant will have relevant experience of working with children and families within the specialism of autism, and ideally experience of working within an autism diagnostic service.
Based within the Child Development Service, the service worksclosely with multidisciplinary partners such as speech and language therapists, dieticians, paediatricians, occupational therapists, specialist nurses, and has established close working links to local tertiary hospital specialist teams at the Royal London Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Our mission is to make a positive difference to people's lives by improving the quality of life for all we serve. Our values are: We Care, We Respect, We are Inclusive - so we are looking for people who live and breathe these qualities when supporting service users and carers, and in their relationships with colleagues in the Trust and our partner organisations.
