Full Job Description

We are looking for an enthusiastic Clinical Psychologist to join the Brighton and Hove Children in Care Emotional Well Being Service.

The focus of this service is to work together to develop positive relationships across multi-agency networks and to support plans for interventions based on a shared understanding of the needs, vulnerabilities and strengths of children and young people in care who have experienced developmental trauma. You would join a small team of psychologists and an OT based within children's social care. Psychologists within the service offer consultation to the network around the child, therapeutic parenting support (via co-facilitating therapeutic parenting groups and reflective practice groups for foster carers, in addition to individual therapeutic parenting support), training to social workers, psychological assessment of children's needs, cognitive assessments and direct attachment-informed interventions with CIC and their foster carers.

You will be supervised by a senior psychologist and have access to relevant secondary supervision packages (e.g. DDP). You will be joining a community of clinical psychologists and other professionals who meet for quarterly Pan Sussex Psychology CPD events.

Main duties of the job

You will contribute to the emotional wellbeing, psychological and mental health thinking of the network around a child/young person in care through offering consultations that support a comprehensive understanding of the young people's psychological needs from an attachment and developmental trauma perspective.

You will co-facilitate Therapeutic Parenting Groups for Foster Carers and training for Social Workers.

You will carry out psychological assessments of children and young people to support greater understanding of their needs and well-being and to support identification of what further therapeutic support might be indicated.

You will carry out cognitive assessments of children and young people.

You will hold a small caseload, offering dyadic attachment-informed work.

You will be involved in continuing to grow an attachment informed community of practice through the delivery and facilitation of regular reflective practice groups for foster cares who have completed a Therapeutic Parenting Group

You will offer clinical and professional supervision to Assistant Psychologist/s and potentially Trainee Psychologist/s within the service.

Supervision will be provided by an experienced senior clinical psychologist.

Sussex Partnership provides mental health and learning disability care for all age groups across Sussex and for children and young people. We'd love you to join our Trust, rated good overall and outstanding for caring by the CQC. Our staff agree; in our recent staff survey 82% told us that they recognise that care for patients is our top priority.
