An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a dedicated and compassionate multi-disciplinary team at The University of Southampton Auditory Implant Service (USAIS).
USAIS is renowned for providing a regional service for severely and profoundly deaf children, young people and adults across the south of England and the Channel Islands.
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to life-changing care for individuals with severe to profound hearing loss, supporting them through assessment, implantation, and rehabilitation and beyond. The work includes specialist psychological assessment, formulation and therapy and there are opportunities for individual work, group work, and work with the wider system. Consultation and advice on patient's psychological care to the wider multi-disciplinary team, as well as liaison with external agencies is an important aspect of the work.
You will be a valued and key member of the multi-disciplinary team and have opportunities to shape the Clinical Psychology Service at USAIS. There are opportunities to teach on courses run at the University and with partner charities and organisations, as well as be involved in audit and service development within USAIS. You will also have a key role in the USAIS safeguarding team which provides consultation and support to the wider team. Attendances at conferences and training courses is encouraged and supported for continuing professional development., o Conduct psychological assessments to support candidacy decisions for cochlear implantation and liaise with the wider team both verbally and in writing
o Provide therapeutic interventions to patients and families adjusting to hearing loss and implant use
o Offer consultation and training to the wider team on psychological aspects hearing impairment
o Contribute to service development, audit, and research initiatives
o Support patients with complex needs, including neurodevelopmental or mental health conditions

o HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologist
o Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or equivalent)
o Experience working in health settings, ideally with sensory impairment or neuropsychology
o Strong interpersonal and communication skills
o Commitment to person-centred care and multidisciplinary collaboration
