Full Job Description
The Clinical Fellow will work in a highly supportive environment, working closely with a multi-disciplinary team to support the delivery of treatments to patients at VCC, and wider service improvement. Radiotherapy development within VCC is overseen by the Radiotherapy Delivery Group (RDG), membership of which includes clinicians, medical physicists and radiographers. Participation in the RDG will be expected of the post holder. As well as providing a clinical presence within the radiotherapy service the post holder will be expected to support other clinical activities of VCC including Acute Oncology Service, outpatient, radiotherapy planning and inpatient support. The Fellow will be expected to support the educational requirements of the multi-disciplinary workforce of VCC as it continues the clinical implementation of advanced radiotherapy techniques and other clinical, training and research improvement services. This post is a fixed term/secondment for 12 months to meet the needs of the service. If you are interested in applying for the secondment position, you must obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying for this post., This post would suit a post-FRCR fellowship clinical oncology STR or equivalent with an interest in advanced radiotherapy techniques. Applications from pre-fellowship STRs will also be considered. The applicant will need to seek prospective approval from PMETB for an 'out of programme research/experience' before taking up the post. The post holder will be expected to develop his/her understanding of advanced radiotherapy, including advanced imaging for target volume definition, IMRT and PBT planning, internal organ motion and IGRT. The postholder will join a team of StR's and contribute to outpatient clinical care and inpatient ward care, including the Acute Oncology Service and admission assessment unit The postholder may opt to be included in rotational On-call for the Acute Oncology Service through day time hours and second non-resident on-call overnight. The post will provide opportunities for experience in clinical trials research with Cis, trial recruitment, RTQA and early phase trials. - Qualified Medical Practitioner
- Eligible for GMC Registration
- FRCR or equivalent
- Completion of UK Foundation training program or equivalent EXPERIENCE Essential
- Evidence of experience in a range of acute medical specialties, with experience of managing patients on unselected medical take during core training or equivalent
- Have evidence that their present level of achievement and performance is commensurate with the totality of their period of training
- Not already hold, nor be eligible to hold, a CCT/CESR in the specialty they are applying
- Not have previously relinquished or been released / removed from a training programme in this specialty, except under exceptional circumstances Desirable
- Experience at CT/ST 1/2 level of managing patients with cancer disease and managing cancer-related CLINICAL SKILLS Essential
- Demonstrates awareness of the basics of managing patients with cancer
- Competence at core completion level in the management of medical emergencies, in patients and out patients
- Appropriate knowledge base, and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems
- Able to work without direct supervision where appropriate
- Able to prioritise clinical need
- Demonstrates current ALS certification or equivalent Desirable
- Evidence of skills in the management of acute medical emergencies (e.g. ALERT, IMPACT certification) ACADEMIC SKILLS Essential
- Demonstrates understanding of research, including awareness of ethical issues
- Demonstrates understanding of the basic principles of audit, clinical risk management, evidence based practice, patient safety and clinical quality improvement initiatives
- Demonstrates knowledge of evidence informed practice
- Evidence of teaching experience and/or training in teaching Desirable
- Evidence of relevant academic and research achievements, and involvement in a formal research project
- Evidence of a portfolio of audit/quality improvement projects, including where the audit loop has been closed and there is evidence of learning of the principles of change management
- Evidence of involvement in teaching students, postgraduates and other professionals
- Evidence of participation in a teaching course, Applicants must have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English, adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues; as demonstrated by one of the following: Undergraduate medical training undertaken in English or academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) results showing a score of at least 7.0 in each domain (speaking, listening, reading, writing),with an overall score of at least 7.5, to be achieved in a single sitting and within 24 months of the time of application
