  • Essential requirements - UK NMC Registered General Nurse or Adult Nurse with a Full UK driving licence and own transport - Primarily based at Sue Ryder Berkshire West, with an expectation to travel to our other sites, Duchess of Kent Hospice RG30 2DX and South Oxfordshire Palliative Care Hub OX10 6SL

About the role Our Clinical Nurse Specialists play an essential role in providing high-quality, person centred care for individuals facing life-limiting illnesses. By combining clinical expertise, emotional intelligence, and leadership skills, they ensure that patients and families experience dignity, comfort, and peace during some of the most challenging times of their lives. Their role enhances the overall quality of palliative care and supports the healthcare team in delivering the best possible outcomes. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Palliative Care Nurse who wants to work in a supportive environment where care of the patients comes first. Your main duties will be to provide direct assessment, support and advocacy to service users and carers dealing with complex, distressing and life-limiting illnesses. The successful applicant will be responsible for providing support to patients, families, and healthcare professionals, ensuring they receive timely advice and guidance. The role will be primarily based at our Berkshire West Community office in Theale, with travel to the In-Patient Unit at Duchess of Kent Hospice and the South Oxfordshire Palliative Care Hub in Wallingford, working a combination of day and night shifts. Travel will be coordinated from the Theale base. Responsibilities will include responding to telephone calls, offering appropriate clinical advice, and supporting the wider team to deliver high-quality care across both settings. The successful candidate will also be expected to have a strong interest in completing their Non-Medical Prescribing (NMP) course as part of their ongoing professional development. In addition:

Minimum Essential Criteria:
  • NMC registered with an interest in working towards their Non-Medical Prescribing qualification
  • Previous Palliative care Community experience
  • Ability to support adjustments for diverse patient needs
  • Skilled in accessible communication with patients and families
  • Commitment to inclusion and patient advocacy
  • Desirable Criteria:
  • Advanced communication training (e.g. Sage & Thyme)
  • Experience with symptom management in complex needs
