We are delighted to offer a rewarding opportunity for a committed and forward-thinking registered children's nurse to join our Community Child Health Team as a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS). This is one of three newly created positions at the heart of our paediatric neurodevelopmental pathway. You will be working within a vibrant multi-disciplinary and multi-agency team, leading nurse-led Education, Health and Care Needs Assessment (EHCNA) clinics, Paediatric Assessment Reviews, neurodevelopmental assessments, and contributing to the development of our Waiting Well offer. We are seeking an enthusiastic and confident nurse with a passion for community care and neurodevelopmental practice. We are especially keen to receive applications from those with backgrounds in CAMHS or learning disabilities, as this is a key area we are committed to strengthening within our service. Your expertise in behaviour, emotional, or learning-needs-focused care will add invaluable depth to our pathway and help shape a more responsive and holistic offer for children and young people. If you bring transferable skills from health visiting, school health, or supporting children with complex needs, we'd be interested in hearing from you too as we are committed to supporting staff to grow in this specialist role., As Clinical Nurse Specialist, Community Child Health, you will,

  • Deliver high-quality, nurse-led clinics and assessments for children and young people with neurodevelopmental conditions, including autism, global developmental delay, and learning disabilities.
  • independently conduct comprehensive health needs assessments of children and young people with complex needs across various areas of the Child Health Service. This includes performing developmental assessments, collecting detailed neurodevelopmental histories, and observing social interaction and behaviour in nursery or school settings. Clinic assignments will be matched to the competencies of the postholder, and all necessary training will be completed according to clinical practice standards
  • Work collaboratively with consultants, allied health professionals, and wider multi-agency teams to ensure timely, coordinated care.
  • Act as a central point of contact for families, offering guidance on therapeutic, educational, and social support services.
  • Contribute to service development, clinical audits, and quality improvement initiatives.

  • To be responsible for undertaking nurse led neurodevelopmental clinics for CYP of various ages and levels of need
  • To support the MDT to ensure that assessments are completed promptly and to a consistent standard
  • To serve as a lead specialist, demonstrating a high level of clinical expertise, specialised advice and training and support to professionals, colleagues and the wider MDT
  • To work as a member of the MDT to support Consultants and Allied Health Professionals with specialist assessment pathways, e.g. Autism
  • To take sole and joint responsibility for the client and procedure during assessment, diagnostic and therapeutic interventional procedures to ensure a successful patient-based outcome within community settings
  • To conduct clinical audits and research in their specialty
  • To support quality improvement initiatives to ensure excellent clinical care and outcomes
