Clinical Nurse Specialist

As a Breast Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in supporting patients throughout their breast cancer pathway, providing expert clinical advice, emotional support, education, and advocacy. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will coordinate and deliver high-quality, patient-centred care for individuals with both early and advanced breast cancer., The successful candidate will:

• Act as a key worker for patients with breast cancer, ensuring continuity of care throughout their treatment journey.
• Provide specialist nursing advice, support and education to patients, relatives and carers.
• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised care plans.
• Support patients in making informed decisions regarding treatment options and ongoing care.
• Manage patients with complex physical, psychological and emotional needs.
• Work collaboratively with consultants, nursing staff and the wider multidisciplinary team.
• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and contribute to treatment planning.
• Promote evidence-based practice and contribute to service development initiatives.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and ensure compliance with professional standards.
• Act as a patient advocate and provide holistic care at all stages of the breast cancer pathway., The Clinical Nurse Specialist is responsible for supporting patients throughout their illness, from pre-diagnosis onwards, so that the patient is well supported throughout. This is often referred to as a key worker.
They care for patients throughout their diagnosis and treatment. They take a key role in supporting the patients during their treatment and are an essential member of the multidisciplinary team (MDT). The Clinical Nurse Specialist is a critical and consistent contact point for patients who often will need to interact with different parts of the hospital in order to receive optimal treatment. The Clinical Nurse Specialist will;
• Build trust with the physicians and patients through multidisciplinary care coordination.
• Assist in educating patients about their disease so they can make informed decisions about their care.
• Provide emotional support to the patient, family and caregivers.
• Signpost patients to support networks, internally and externally.
• Advocate for the patient in development of the treatment plan.
• Manage a caseload within their own scope of practice, with support from the wider clinical team.
  
  Significant post-registration experience within breast cancer services.
• Experience working within an acute hospital setting.
• Demonstrable experience supporting patients with breast cancer throughout the treatment pathway.
• Experience of multidisciplinary team working., Registered General Nurse (RGN) with current NMC registration.
• First-level degree in Nursing.
• Master's degree in Advanced Clinical Practice, Cancer Nursing, Oncology Nursing or a related specialty, or currently working towards achieving this qualification., Advanced knowledge of breast cancer management.
• Experience managing patients with early and advanced breast cancer.
• Ability to assess and manage complex patient needs.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to provide emotional support and patient education.
• Strong organisational and caseload management skills.
• Commitment to evidence-based practice and quality improvement.
