Applications are invited for a Specialist Nurse in Weight Management within the Diabetes and Metabolism Department, specifically supporting the Obesity Service at Barts Health NHS Trust, working across St Bartholomew's Hospital and Mile End Hospital. This role is a one year fixed term post which will commence from the 1st of April 2026. The role of the specialist nurse will be to work within a specialist multidisciplinary weight management service and to provide specialist multidisciplinary care to people with complex obesity. This role offers an excellent opportunity to deliver multidisciplinary specialist care to people living with obesity, advocating for patients and promoting excellence in practice within the obesity service. The post will offer the opportunity to contribute to departmental activities including governance, education, research and service development. Main duties of the job The Specialist Nurse in weight management will be an integral member of the Weight Management Service. The post holder will support the Adult Weight Management Service multidisciplinary team to plan, deliver and evaluate interventions to support adults who have complex obesity and associated conditions. The post holder will contribute to the assessment of patients referred to the Tier 3 Weight Management Service. They will support patients approved for weight management treatment with semaglutide 2.4mg, utilized as an adjunct to sustainable lifestyle change. The post holder will support patients implementing advice provided by the team members, support dose titration clinics and facilitate sustainable behaviour change, as well as participate in the delivery of group sessions. The post-holder will take part in weekly multidisciplinary team meetings. The post holder will liaise with a number of healthcare professionals, such as GPs, secondary care providers, in other specialities, in order to coordinate care. The post-holder will participate in the education of patients and other clinicians to help improve their knowledge and support weight management
- Programmed of study leading to successful registration with the HPC as a registered dietician
- Competence in all core skills required in dietetic practice with evidence of ongoing CPD
- Training in delivery of Total Diet Replacement (TDR) Desirable
- Postgraduate training in motivational interviewing Skills Essential
- Ability to prioritise and manage time effectively. Self-motivated and proactive
- Computer literacy and experience in using work processing, spread sheet, database and PowerPoint programmes together with specialist dietetic computer applications
- Competence in nutritional assessment techniques including anthropometry
- Demonstrates a clear understanding of professional practice
- Ability to work as a team member and autonomously as an independent practioner within departmental and national guidelines
- Demonstrate an awareness of diversity Desirable
- Experience in obtaining and utilising body composition measurements
- Member of BDA Obesity specialist group Experience Essential
- Prior experience in obesity care and detailed knowledge of current best practice. Up to date knowledge base of professional and specialist issues
- Training and experience in delivering teaching sessions and presentation
- Experience of being involved in audit Desirable
- Evidence of bariatric experience
- Evidence of experience with feeding post GI surgery and the associated complications
- Relevant experience/interest in facilitating weight management group sessions
