Full Job Description
The main duties of the post includes pre-assessment of all patients referred for Artificial Nutrition Support, insertion of nasal bridles, insertion of balloon retained gastrostomy tubes, traction removal of PEG tubes, setting up/disconnecting parenteral nutrition, patient/carer training and education relating to Artificial Nutrition Support, care of enteral feeding tubes and the delivery of UHB wide training programmes. To assess, plan, deliver and evaluate patient care using a holistic and individualised approach, based on the principles of best practice and clinical effectiveness. Key working relationships will be with the Cardiff and Vale UHB Nutrition Support Team , Clinical Nurse Specialists, Community Nursing and Dietetic teams as well as the hospital based Multi-Disciplinary teams. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a clinical nurse specialist role within the Adult Nutrition Support Team in the field of artificial nutrition support. The successful candidate will be based at UHW but will be required to provide cover across both UHW and UHL hospital sites. The ability to work as part of a team is essential to this role . The post-holder will work as part of the Adult Nutrition Support Team supporting the range of secondary and tertiary care across all adult service clinical boards. A significant element of the role is education and training for patients and staff in relation to the safe delivery of artificial nutrition. Interested candidates must have excellent communication skills, enjoy MDT working and have experience of artificial nutrition. Interested candidates should ideally have experience of feeding tube management e.g Nasogastric tubes, naso-intestinal tubes, gastrostomy tubes and jejunostomy tubes, parenteral nutrition. The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this role; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.,

- Evidence of ongoing CPD Desirable
- Teaching and assessing in clinical practice/teaching qualification Experience Essential
- Demonstrable experience in relevant speciality Desirable
- Experience of managing own caseload in relevant speciality Skills Essential
- Evidence of excellent communication skills(verbal and written)
- Evidence of ability to work independently
