Full Job Description
There is an exciting opportunity for an experienced, dedicated and innovative Registered Mental Health Nurse or Registered Nurse Learning Disability to join our Specialist Services Division as Clinical Matron for our inpatient mental health services for older adults. Older Adults Mental Health inpatient services consists of 5 inpatient units, covering the frail functional pathway, organic assessment and treatment, and continuing healthcare provision for service users with advanced dementia and complex care needs. This post covers the continuing healthcare wards, Elizabeth Court and Lambourn Grove, in addition to providing senior nurse leadership to our out of hours clinical leads team. The Matron's key responsibility is to ensure that service users' experience safe and effective care delivered in partnership with them and their carers. This will be achieved through high visibility, accessibility and clinical leadership. The Matron will be expected to be a visible presence within their specialist clinical areas providing support, leadership and expertise, highlighting and taking appropriate action where there are concerns and deficits in care. N.B The post will require travel between sites to any of the older adult inpatient units, all of which based within Hertfordshire. Areas of responsibility may be subject to change as two Clinical Matrons cover the 5 older adult wards and work very closely together to provide senior nurse leadership to our services users and staff.,
- To provide strong clinical and professional leadership and a supportive approach to Team Leaders and clinicians within the multidisciplinary team (MDT)
- To be a visible, accessible and authoritative presence in the clinical areas
- To work within the Modern Matrons Charter to ensure good standards of infection control, privacy and dignity, cleanliness and health and safety
- To oversee and monitor the quality, timeliness and development of nursing care in accordance with all relevant professional standards
- To ensure the environments in which service care and treatment is provided are fit for purpose, clean, well ordered and maintained
- To ensure all nursing practice is in accordance with statutory and corporate policies, including those specific to service user care
- To be responsible for the professional management of the clinical environment, ensuring the right staff with the right skills to deliver person centered nursing care, involving service users and carers
- To supervise and teach registered and non-registered staff including students
- To be responsible for the identification of learning development needs; to plan how these will be met and evaluate the effectiveness for learners and impact on care
- To be responsible for the provision of safe staffing levels, ensuring the privacy and dignity of service users., As Clinical Matron you will join an existing group of senior nurses across our Specialist Services and work collaboratively, with excellent peer support, in delivering the highest standard of nursing leadership within your services, being an exemplary professional role model to others, and leading and building a robust nursing workforce.
Registered Nurse on NMC register - Educated to Master's degree or currently working towards a Master's degree
- Evidence of continuing personal and professional development
- Leadership course evident or working towards
- Mentorship course, Wide knowledge of developments in the NHS impacting on the Trust, including comprehensive understanding of current NHS initiatives and targets Desirable criteria
- Accreditation (CQC, AIMS) and revalidation knowledge and experience
- Confident with HR policies and procedures and demonstrable evidence of managing significant numbers of staff, Management experience in clinical NHS environment
- Excellent understanding of the management of safe staffing
- Significant experience of people management and effective leadership
- Ability to lead the service areas with vision and determination
- Ability to offer encouragement and support to others to foster both personal and professional development, You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
