Clinical Lead for Anaesthetics

We are looking for a dynamic and skilled leader to develop and lead the anaesthetic consultant body, ensuring effective group job planning and workforce deployment and creating the conditions that enable safe, productive and financially sustainable surgical services across OUH., Provide strategic and visible clinical leadership for the Anaesthetics service, ensuring sufficient capacity, effective rota and leave management, and integrated peri-operative pathways to support theatre productivity and elective delivery. The postholder will develop a cohesive leadership team, strengthen accountability and succession planning, and act as the principal clinical interface between Anaesthetics, the Directorate and Divisional leadership teams. Key responsibilities include leading workforce planning, consultant job planning and medical engagement; ensuring job plans are current, signed off and aligned to service need; and supporting sustainable deployment of the medical workforce. The role will also drive service transformation and operational improvement in collaboration with surgical specialties, Pre-Operative Assessment, Critical Care and operational colleagues, supporting digital innovation, business cases and strategic planning. The postholder will ensure delivery of quality, governance, workforce and financial objectives, including patient safety, audit, recruitment, productivity improvement and compliance with Trust policies and national standards, while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and staff engagement.

• A practicing clinical professional, consultant anaesthetist or equivalent, Postgraduate management/ further study qualification, Experience of working within the NHS within an acute hospital, preferably a teaching hospital
• Recent experience in leading a clinical department or similar
• Knowledge and understanding of clinical governance gained form experience of working with such systems

• Judgement Have strong ability to understand and interpret clinical decisions for others and make informed judgements concerning clinical priorities
• Presentation Be articulate and skilled in presenting ideas to others; Be articulate with practised and developed communication and presentation skills
• Have the proven ability to operate and think laterally at an operational level, with good analytical skills
• Be tactful, diplomatic and at ease with a diversity of forums and people, You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
