The Clinical Lead balances delivering high quality patient care, operational excellence, service development, and staff management, while also managing their own clinical workload. As a clinical and operational leader, the post holder will supervise, coach, and mentor clinicians and colleagues, drive staff development and team performance. The role involves ensuring excellent service delivery and development, engaging in business planning, quality improvement, and the implementation of clinical governance processes to ensure alignment with organisational goals and patient needs. The Clinical Lead acts as a representative of the companys values and objectives at all times. This role is an excellent opportunity to have a key influence within Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent to advance and improve the delivery of service. Services are also delivered in Burton on Trent, Cannock, Wolverhampton and Stafford. We provide inpatient, outpatient and community orthotic care for a wide variety of patients. There is a complex mix of Adult and Paediatric MDTs which provide a great opportunity to be exposed to interesting and varied caseloads. Alongside the general, paediatric, spinal and community clinics, the role leads and supports the day-to-day delivery of orthotic services within the Staffordshire region., Provide strategic clinical leadership for the Opcare Centre, setting direction, aligning with organisational goals, and representing the service in external partnerships. Line management of the clinical team, responsible for performance management, development, recruitment and appraisal processes. Oversee daily clinical operations, including workload management across the team, resource allocation, and operational efficiency to deliver seamless patient care whilst meeting KPI targets. Promotes a positive, supportive team culture that balances high-quality patient care with staff wellbeing, professional development and organisational performance targets. Manages own clinical caseload alongside leadership duties, maintaining expertise in assessment, prescription, and treatment planning. Lead service planning and development, ensuring effective use of staff, resources, and evidence-based innovation to meet patient and organisational needs. Proactively drives clinical audit and quality improvement and collaborates with team members to identify key areas for clinical audit and ensure evidence based practice in line with HCPC guidelines. Responsible for clinical service financial and resource management, budget planning, reporting and cost-effective service delivery, with the support of the centre manager. Collaborates with technical teams to ensure accurate, timely manufacture of bespoke devices, minimise waste and maintain effective stock control., We have an exciting opportunity for a Clinical Lead Orthotist to join our team in Staffordshire. The hub for this service is in an Opcare owned building based in Stoke on Trent, with a fully managed service delivered with a supportive and experienced team of Opcare administrators and clinicians. Services are also delivered in Burton on Trent, Cannock, Wolverhampton and Stafford. We provide inpatient, outpatient and community orthotic care for a wide variety of patients. Key Responsibilities: Provide strategic clinical leadership for the Opcare Centre, setting direction, aligning with organisational goals, and representing the service in external partnerships. Ensures adherence to clinical standards and protocols and leads by example following prescription guidelines and associated targets and is responsible for embedding these with the team. Manages own clinical caseload alongside leadership duties, maintaining expertise in assessment, prescription, and treatment planning. Provides support to the centre manager for urgent day-to-day management tasks and to ensure smooth running of the service. Lead service planning and development, ensuring effective use of staff, resources, and evidence-based innovation to meet patient and organisational needs. Proactively drives clinical audit and quality improvement and collaborates with team members to identify key areas for clinical audit and ensure evidence -based practice in line with HCPC guidelines. Responsible for clinical service financial and resource management, budget planning, reporting and cost-effective service delivery, with the support of the centre manager. Collaborates with technical teams to ensure accurate, timely manufacture of bespoke devices, minimise waste and maintain effective stock control. Facilitate and participate in MDT working, building strong relationships with NHS partners and other professionals to ensure integrated patient care.
Essential:
- Strong clinical experience within prosthetics orthotics
- Commitment to the highest standard of patient care and practice in line with HCPC registration.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Ability to prioritise, plan, and manage multiple priorities.
- Proven experience of working effectively within a team environment.
- Evidence of leadership/involvement in service development or improvement.
- Ability to coach, mentor, and motivate team members.
- Skilled in communicating complex information to diverse patient groups, including children and individuals with learning disabilities.
- Experience with leadership in MDT environments.
- Ability to work flexibly, balancing clinical and operational priorities.
- Fully proficient with Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint. Desirable:
- Sound working knowledge of Rehapp.
- Experience mentoring students or graduates.
- Knowledge or experience with CAD/CAM systems.
- Proficiency with Power BI and advanced Excel. Previous involvement in research, service development, or quality improvement. Qualifications: Essential: BSc Hons in Prosthetics and Orthotics or equivalent HCPC registered Full driving licence Desirable:
- Relevant MSc, or postgraduate qualifications in a clinical area.
