About us

University College London (UCL) and The Wellington Hospital are recruiting to a Clinical Fellowship scheme which offers cardiology SpR's an opportunity to study for a PhD in UCL's Institute of Cardiovascular Science, while working at the UK's largest private hospital providing specialist complex care.

About the role

This Clinical Fellowship will be available to Specialist Registrars looking to undertake a PhD grounded in cardiovascular science. They will have the opportunity to select a research project and a supervisor from across the range of disciplines in the UCL Institute of Cardiovascular Science (ICS). This includes The Hatter Cardiovascular Institute, Children's Cardiovascular Disease and Population Science and Experimental Medicine, and the MRC Unit of Lifelong Health and Ageing.

Clinical Fellows will register for their higher degrees at UCL (part-time). Their salary will be funded by The Wellington Hospital who will also cover their annual higher degree (PhD) registration fee and an annual allowance for consumables for a period of up to 3 years, within agreed limits.

About you

We welcome all applicants who are GMC registered and have MRCP accreditation. The scheme is open only to UK nationals due to funding restrictions. In addition, they must meet UCL's entrance requirements for PhD registration. Those applicants who meet both standards will be invited to interview. All interested applicants are invited to apply and submit both a Curriculum Vitae and Personal Statement. There is one Fellowship available and will commence in early 2027.

What we offer

As well as the exciting opportunities this role presents, we also offer great benefits, some of which are below:

  • 41 Days holiday (27 days annual leave, 8 bank holidays, and 6 closure days)
  • Additional 5 days' annual leave purchase scheme
  • Defined benefit career average revalued earnings pension scheme (CARE)
  • Cycle to work scheme and season ticket loan
  • Immigration loan
  • On-site nursery
  • On-site gym
  • Enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption pay
  • Employee assistance programme: Staff Support Service
  • Discounted medical insurance

Visit the benefits page to find out more.

We will consider applications to work on a part-time, flexible, and job share basis wherever possible. This appointment is subject to UCL Terms and Conditions of Service for Research and Professional Services Staff. Please visit the UCL website for more information.
