Full Job Description

The core aspect of the role will be to facilitate Simulation Based Education (SBE) Programmes for Residents in the Foundation and IMT programmes as well as assisting the wider Simulation Faculty with improving patient care and experience through training a wide variety of healthcare professionals.,

  • Facilitate an adult learning process that creates a safe, non-threatening climate supporting learning across ELHT and promote equal opportunities for access to learning & development to staff.
  • Become an ambassador for patient safety and best practice, ensuring these are embedded throughout SBE programmes.
  • Gain an understanding of Human Factors and emotional intelligence and their impact within the healthcare setting.
  • Deliver SBE across ELHT, in the Simulation Suite, and both Learning and Development Centres and in-situ training in clinical areas
  • Gain competence in SBE scenario creation, observation of non-technical skills and effective debriefing using agreed templates.
  • Assist with the update of scenarios, lesson plans and teaching resources in line with national and local clinical guideline changes using evidence-based practice, liaising with professional colleagues, reviewing literature, and evaluating feedback.
  • Contribute to teaching and facilitating undergraduate curricula including nurses, physician associates, medical students (occasional) and other allied health professionals.
  • Participate in course evaluation, feedback, and audit
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with external providers to build and protect departmental reputation.

To support this vision, we work across the Education and Simulation Centres of the Royal Blackburn and Burnley General Teaching Hospitals as well as providing support in clinical practice delivering in situ simulation.Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • STANDARDS OF CONDUCT
  • The post holder will conduct duties with regard to the Trust's Vision and Values
  • GOVERNANCE
  • i) CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT The appointee is expected to undertake CPD, including CME, in accordance with the relevant College's and Trust's requirements ii) APPRAISAL AND JOB PLANNING The post holder, in common with all posts in the Trust, will participate in the Trust's appraisal and Job Planning process. iii) SAFE AND EFFECTIVE CARE FOR PATIENTS The Trust is committed to providing safe and effective care for patients. To ensure this there is an agreed procedure for medical staff that enables them to report quickly and confidentially, concerns about the conduct, performance or health of medical colleagues (Chief Medical Officer 1996). All medical staff practising in the Trust should ensure that they are familiar with the procedure and should apply it. iv) RISK MANAGEMENT It is a standard element of the role and responsibility of all staff of the Trust that they fulfil a proactive role towards the management of risk in all of their actions. This entails the risk assessment of all situations, the taking of appropriate actions and reporting of all incidents, near misses and hazards. v) TRUST POLICIES AND PROCEDURES All staff should ensure that personal action and conduct comply with Trust Policies and Procedures, e.g. Infection control, health and safety, fire procedures, no smoking policy, equal opportunities, confidentiality, etc.
  • RECORDS MANAGEMENT/DATA PROTECTION ACT
  • As an employee of the Trust, you have a legal responsibility for all records, including patient health, financial, personal and administrative, that you gather or use as part of your work within the Trust. The records may be paper, electronic, microfiche, audio, video tapes, x-ray images etc. You must consult your manager if you have any doubt as to the correct management of the records with which you work.

    The fellowship will immerse the successful applicant(s) in the field of SBE, developing an in-depth knowledge of this pedagogy including simulation modalities, scenario, and course design, running simulation suite and in-situ simulation sessions and facilitating debriefing. Previous experience of facilitating or developing simulation education is an advantage but not required as training and supervision in delivering SBE will be provided as part of the role. The successful candidate(s) will display a passion for delivering simulation-based education, have recent acute clinical experience, and demonstrate excellent clinical skills and an understanding of best practice.,
