Clinical Fellow in Vascular Anaesthesia

This twelve-month post will provide training in vascular anaesthesia in a busy tertiary referral centre. The service is based at The John Radcliffe and delivers care to a high volume of patients, including both elective and emergency vascular surgery, as well as complex endovascular procedures. The appointee will join the established vascular anaesthetic group, contributing to two dedicated daily vascular operating lists, alongside a comprehensive perioperative service. This includes a weekly consultant anaesthetist-led preoperative assessment clinic and anaesthetist-led cardiopulmonary exercise (CPET) testing for high-risk patients, supporting optimisation and risk stratification.

This post could be considered as an OOPE or as a standalone 12-month post. It would suit a senior resident / peri-CCT / post CCT grade - as independent practice will be an expected/planned endpoint, thus more junior grades are not eligible. The post holder will be expected to join in delivering the education of junior grade anaesthetists and medical students in this area. Overseas applications from qualified anaesthetists will be considered provided applicants have at least 5 years of anaesthetic training in structured training programmes similar to the RCoA and are fully registered with the GMC with a license to practice.,

• Final FRCA or equivalent
• ALS provider
• More than 5 years' experience in structured training programme in Anaesthesia
Desirable criteria
• ATLS provider
• NHS experience
• Higher level training in Vascular anaesthesia or equivalent, Specialist training in anaesthesia and experience in multidisciplinary team working
• Ability to make decisions at ST6/7 level, Evidence of team leadership skills to be able to effectively work at the level of a Clinical Fellow in a large multi-site teaching hospital
• Effective administrative and time management skills
• Commitment to continuing professional development (CPD)
• Computer literacy for electronic patient record keeping
• Good spoken and written English. Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills
• Experience of delivering teaching and training in healthcare
• Involvement in clinical audit/quality improvement/clinical governance activity
• Interest in vascular anaesthesia research
Desirable criteria
• Knowledge of the organisation of the NHS
• Experience in preparing clinical guidelines
• Flexible approach to problem solving
• Experience with simulation and MDT training
• Completed quality improvement/audit projects
• Involvement in Vascular anaesthesia research, Full registration and licence to practise
