Full Job Description
We are seeking to appoint a full-time doctor to join an enthusiastic and committed team providing Specialist Palliative Care support to patients across Liverpool and South Sefton. The position is initially 6 months fixed-term contract with potential to extend longer term. The post holder will be employed by Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and duties will be based at Woodlands Hospice/Aintree University Hospital or at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital/ Marie Curie Hospice Liverpool. The person appointed will be based primarily at either Woodlands Hospice on the Aintree site, undertaking duties within the in-patient settings but with the option of supporting other aspects of the ambulatory (Woodlands) and hospital-based services (AUH/RLUH sites) depending on skills and experience. For candidates with appropriate experience in Palliative Medicine, we may consider a placement supporting the hospital or ambulatory services as a primary role. We also welcome applications from qualified General Practitioners who wish to consider a specialist interest role for 1-2 days per week, alongside their current post., The post holder's main duties will be to support the patients and their carers admitted to the in-patient unit at Woodlands Hospice/ LHCH palliative care unit or presenting to the IMPaCT medical clinics. The post-holder, depending on level of experience, may also work alongside the Hospital Specialist Palliative Care teams to review patients under the care of the service within the acute hospitals and the Community Specialist Palliative Care teams (AUH site) to undertake crisis intervention domiciliary visits for patients whose preferred place of care is home. If undertaking duties in the ambulatory service, the post holder will also provide medical advice and support to the IMPaCT hub, with support from senior colleagues, and undertake face to face and telephone patient reviews in the ambulatory medical clinic.
- Full GMC registration and licence to practice
- MBBS or Equivalent Desirable criteria
- Four years full-time postgraduate training, two of which must have been in relevant acute specialties (or demonstration of equivalent experience)
- Post Graduate Qualification of Diploma in Palliative Medicine MRCP or equivalent, Training and work experience in Oncology and Palliative Medicine
- Experience in treating primary and secondary malignant disease, and symptoms in nonmalignant conditions
- Knowledge & Experience of Symptom Control
- Ability to undertake Audit
- Demonstrates ability to work in a multiprofessional team with the ability to manage conflict. Desirable criteria
- Understand the principles of quality governance
- Experience of teaching basic palliative care skills to non-specialist clinical staff
- Core Research Skills with ability to embrace a Research Culture, You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
