Full Job Description
Flexible working arrangements may be considered and discussions with the recruiting manager regarding this are encouraged., Educational/Training Objectives (i) Primary training period (initial 6 months)
- Principles of airway management, endotracheal intubation, basic Anaesthetic techniques.
- Recognition of the sick child
- Prompt initiation of resuscitation, with emphasis on airway, breathing, and circulation.
- Gain skills needed for arterial, intraosseous and central venous cannulation.
- Principles of mechanical ventilation
- Appropriate use of inotropic and vasoactive drugs.
- Principles of sedation, analgesia and muscle relaxation
- Principles of emergency retrieval
- Principles of debriefing and teaming (ii) Intermediate training period (6-12 months)
- Expand and develop the skills acquired during the primary training period.
- Act as 'team leader' and direct activities during a resuscitation.
- Gain an understanding of physiology and pathophysiology relevant to intensive care.
- Become independently proficient at central venous cannulation.
- Gain experience of more invasive monitoring techniques eg intracranial pressure monitoring etc.
- Advanced Critical Care communication
- Elective rotation
- Rotation in Critical Care Outreach
- First rotation in Critical care retrieval (dependent on acquired competencies in PIC and progression of training Please refer to the job description for further information.
Trainees applying for these post MUST have a FULL GMC registration. These posts are intended for experienced trainees in Paediatric Critical Care, anaesthetists or trainees in Adult ICM or Emergency Medicine wishing to obtain experience in Paediatric Critical Care Medicine (Cardiac Intensive Care with ECMO experience, medicosurgical Intensive care (including neurocritical care, Liver transplantation critical care, Burns and trauma critical care), critical care outreach (HDU) and paediatric critical care retrieval medicine), with the option of rotations in level 3 neonatal intensive care and paediatric emergency medicine after a period of consolidation in paediatric intensive care. Please note that provisional interview date is 8^th July 2025
