Full Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic haematologist for a 12 month fellowship to work predominantly in the field of laboratory haematology and covering 1-2 outpatient clinics per week. The appointee will be encouraged to build on experience learned through training and become confident in reporting blood films and HMDL specimens (Blood, bone marrow aspirate and trephine morphology) as well as developing competence in reporting flow cytometry and extending knowledge in molecular aspects of haematological disease. The appointee will gain more experience with laboratory quality requirements and accreditation processes. There are daily teaching opportunities to contribute to training of the laboratory Specialist registrars and an opportunity to develop the department's digital teaching resource. The appointee will also provide 1-2 clinics per week so needs experience both in clinical as well as laboratory haematology. Prior experience in haematology, clinical and laboratory, is essential, as is prior, Induction The post will have a formal induction process to familiarise you with the hospital, department and specialty, this will include an introduction to safe laboratory practice. Clinical and Laboratory The role will provide experience in laboratory haematology while supporting the provision of highest quality patient care through personal actions and continuous improvement. The appointee would be predominantly part of the haematology laboratory/HMDL team providing reporting and advice as well as MDT support for the regional non-lymphoma MDT and the regional molecular review meeting. They will contribute to the daily provision of haematology laboratory services, including involvement in quality management and supervision of junior medical staff and Clinical Scientists. There will be opportunities to become proficient in flow reporting. The appointee will participate in 1-2 out-patient clinics per week. There is no expected on call commitment associated with this post, although there may be the option to participate if this was the candidates preference. The appointment will be whole time. If the appointed candidate is unable for personal reasons, to work whole time, they will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis in consultation with colleagues.
experience of working in the NHS (at least 12 months NHS experience). Candidates must have passed FRCPath Part 1.
