Clinical Fellow in General & Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery

The post holder will be expected to carry out surgery, as well as provide expertise in the diagnosis, assessment and on-going management of oesophagogastric cancer and general surgery patients. This one year programmed in General and Upper GI will provided training and experience in all aspects of care for patients. the postholder will be supervised by Mr Tarig Abdelrahman, Lead Consultant Surgeon for Upper GI and will work with the Upper GI Surgeons associated with the programme. On completion of this programme it is anticipated that the trainee will have skills appropriate to a Surgeon with a special interest in Upper GI. The one year programme is based at the University Hospital of Wales. The post is subject to review after six months and continuation in the post is dependent upon satisfactory performance., Clinical Fellow in General & Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery,

• oCCT in Upper GI (or within 6 months at time from interview) or inclusion on the Specialist Register
• Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
• FRCS
• Postgraduate degree in Surgery
Desirable
• Intercalated Degree
• Academic excellence (prizes, merits, distinctions etc.)
• Training in Radiation Protection or agreement to attend next available course
  
  Clinical UGI experience
• Completed CCST/CESR or equivalent
• Experience of on call duties at middle grade level
• Postgraduate level training in General Surgery and UGI Surgery, Experience of UGI surgery in a tertiary unit
• Evidence of participation in Research and Clinical Governance
• Experience in resectional and benign Upper GI, Evidence of effective team and multidisciplinary working
• Effective and demonstrable communication skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues
• Up to date with current medical practices
• Ability to take appropriate clinical decisions when necessary
• Research and interests relevant to specialty, Motivated and efficient
• Able to relate to patients, staff and medical colleagues
• Flexible, caring and hard working
• Values aligned to those of the Health Board
• Ability to work as part of a team, Satisfactory immigration / right to work status
• Satisfactory Occupational Health clearance
• Satisfactory Disclosure (DBS) check or equivalent
